Listened to Brugler a bit this morning on tAFS who always has a bit of tea with midseason scouting.

Scouts are viewing 2026 as a 2 QB class right now - Simpson & Mendoza

Other notes:

  • Sellers is this lingering "TBD" that could go top-20, but could also stay in school for more NIL..he has options.  More refined than AR coming in, but could benefit him to wait.
  • Dante Moore sounds very likely to return to school
  • Stock on Pause: Leavitt and Mateer's injuries put a pause on their assessments
  • Stock Down: Nuss & Allar have fallen off radars with their seasons. Nuss was high on scout lists but things really took a dive this season.
  • Watch for: Jayden Maiava who could be a 2nd type & Brendan Sorsby 3rd/4th (& rising) but he could go back to school and transfer

With CLE, NYJ, NO & LVR ahead of us (for now), not likely we land one in R1.

Probably looking the vet route and a mid-round flier IMO.

I must say Sellers looked like ass today. Looks really slow in the pocket. I feel like Simpson would be a 2nd or 3 rounder in a good qb draft, more of a game manager type but it's slim pickings and there all like 7 teams ahead of us in the draft desperate for a qb so I don't see him falling to us, even if we could manage to move up to 9 or 10 in the draft with some L's he's probably gone. Plus i'm starting to notice a trend with these Bama qb's transitioning into the pros lol. Hasn't worked out great

Lance is 2-3 as a starter. Willis’s wins are just more recent because he has an opportunity recently. I’m not against Willis though. Similar idea as Lance. Needed time to sit and learn coming out of college. High ceiling due to physical abilities.

I didn’t realize Lance had started and won a few games. I still like Willis better but having actually played some does make Lance more appeal able.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
