Did you missed this from his actual teammates???

Teammates? That is where you get objective feedback? Did they ask his mom if he was a good boy?

If I am on a team, I do not say anything bad about the QB, the Heisman trophy winner. I say nice things or don't talk.

Why are comments like this meaningful to you but you disregard police reports?

Jeees. I am just saying I would not take him. Many reasons. You will see, I just hope we don't pay him to find it out here.

6 teams had him as the number one player overall in the draft. Even if they pick 15 they rate all of them. They don't start at 15 and go from there

Let this serve as an example of how gullible you are: Nobody leaks their boards or their preferences concerning players unless they have an agenda. NOBODY. If you believed it, I rest my case.

You questioned his work ethic. I'm not sure his teammates sat around and said, "You know what lets make up a story about Cam dragging receivers out in the rain to practice routes." lets make up a story about being do impressed with the guy in the weight room we took him on our tug of war team.

Let's carry this guy off the field (like after the championship game) on our shoulders just so his draft stock rises.

Doubtful.

They won't trash a guy but they also wouldn't volunteer anecdotes and carry a guy off the field just to fool the media and help his draft stock.

It came from a solid source that works for ESPN and SI. Plus they didn't let him put their team out there.

But you seem to have a lot of faith in the media on your "red flag" issues. just not this right?

Lessee.... Cam Newton and his off-field issues or The Golden Calf of Bristol and his on-field issues...

Should I pay a kid a gazillion dollars who can play QB but might get in trouble on the streets somewhere or should I pay a kid a gazllion dollars who won't get in trouble but can't play NFL caliber QB, either?

What does buying a stolen laptop at 18yrs old have to do with how hard a guy works or how good of a football player he is? Big pervert Ben seems to be doing pretty well on the football field. TRD seems to think he's completely innocent and Cam is completely guilty, but none the less...

You are assuming that we know Cam can play NFL football. Since we have no film on him in an NFL game, we have to measure variables. By the way, The Golden Calf of Bristol and Newton have more in common than you realize.

Teeray,

I read the SI reports. Did they tell you which teams? Were there names attached to the reports? It was part fabrication, part hype, and all hearsay. Nothing more.

So is half the stuff you cited about Cam Newton. But that is solid right? You said yourself a team wouldn't give their boards out so he he wasn't allowed to say the teams and it came straight from the scouts and GM's according to him. He has a good enough reputation to work for SI and ESPN the two most respected entities in all of sports. But okay.

But don't criticize him for not naming sources but use the cheating allegation by unnamed sources as a crux to your argument. you can't have it both ways.

Hell, Denver assumed The Golden Calf of Bristol could play NFL football to the tune of many millions and Newton actually has better QB numbers than The Golden Calf of Bristol did coming out of school, and you can't make that assumption?

You know. You guys bring up a lot of good points with Cam. You really do. But what I have seen, and how I feel about the whole situation is, I want us to take Cam. If we don't it will be because our staff weren't satisfied with his ability or his off the field stuff. I am cool with that. I feel we need to draft him but if we don't we are going to get a good football player who will help this team.

The close mindedness IMO has come from the anti-Cam crowd.

You guys have already determined he is a bust, a convict, greedy, selfish, and a bad teammate.

But some of these conclusions has come from things he may or may not have even done. In several of these "red flags" situations they are based on allegations that have never been proven.

I said something similar in another thread and someone (I think MHS) said, "Where there is smoke..." Knowing a little bit about the law I can tell you the "Where there is smoke.." phrase comes from prosecutors who lack proper evidence to convict someone. I can also tell you that every day in courtrooms across the country there are people acquitted who were charged because of a lot of smoke but later was found to be innocent.

It is a meaningless saying designed to convey guilt in the absence of concrete proof.

Having said all that, I am not trying to absolve Cam from all suspicion, and these things need to be discussed. But some of you have already decided his verdict. That isn't fair.

You guys keep accusing us of being close minded when all we want is for you to keep an open mind and give Cam a fair shake as we go into this process. And then trust the process to take care of these issues.

If after that process if the Panthers decide to take him I hope you will give the kid a chance to prove himself. At this point I am not convinced that you will.

Rep and great post. Lets leave it up to the guys who get to meet, talk with him, talk with people around him, see him in person, doing the background checks and interviews, etc, etc determine how real these issues are, if they will be in issue going forward, what this kids work ethic is, how determined is he is to be a great QB vs just collecting a paycheck and all that stuff.

I also do think the question marks need to be answered and our front office needs to be confident he can be a franchise guy.
