Defensive penalties cost the game.

The Panthers' defensive penalties accounted for 78 yards and 6 1st downs of the Saints total offense Sunday. For comparisons, the Saints rushed for 81 yards picking up 6 1st downs. 

So the defensive penalities contributed to the Saints offense as much as their own rushing game.

You can't win games like that.

I wouldn't argue a lot with that except to say the breakdowns on 3rd and 14 and stuff like that, repeatedly, are right there too. 

I think on our last, or maybe next to last possession the radio guys said it was our 6th of the game. 6 offensive possessions isn’t much to work with.

Can't get around the reality that the Saints are giving up an average of 24ppg and we only got to 17. Have an average offensive game against them and we win. 

It's just hard to win games in the modern NFL when you score under 20 points. It puts a ton of pressure on your D and when you're feeling that pressure it's only natural you're probably gonna be more aggressive and more at risk of committing penalties.

Not sure what you are trying to say. Against the Rams, the defense had 1 penalty for 5 yards resulting in 1 first down all game. Against the Falcons, the defenseive penalties came to 24 yards and 2 first downs.

This is why it's important not to cherry pick when looking at stats. The wider net you cast the more likely you are to get the best idea of the overall situation. You can tell any story you want to tell if you cherry pick hard enough.

I am not talking defensive penalties. I am talking penalties.

I am just pointing out that for whatever reason we do tend to be more penalized in our wins than our losses this year. It's not like an outlier thing.

D Brown had a roughing penalty 15 yards

Horn had defensive holding giving them a first down

There was a sack negated because of hands to the face or defensive holding - I can't remeber.

Ransom has a personal foul moving the game winning TD from a 62 yard attempt to a 46 yard attempt.

Juat way too many penalties at terrible times.

I'm just illustrating how bad the penalties were against the Saints compared to the last two wins. Not cherry picking

Those refs were flag happy as hell. 20 total penalties for 181 yards is just crazy. 11 on us for 103 and 9 on them for 78.

I agree. That flag on Ekwonu when all he did was push Jordan was a joke.

And while they were flag happy, it only resulted in one 1st down for the Panthers.

Yeah, it was dumb of Icky because the push on Bryce was light and legal but it was still a pretty ticky tack flag. Pushing and shoving happens after a lot of plays and as long as they knock it off when the refs step in it's usually play on.
