The One Good Thing From Yesterday

Tetairoa McMillan broke the Panthers rookie WR yards record that's been held by Kelvin Benjamin for quite a while (1008 receiving yards).

He ended up with 70 receptions for 1014 yards and 7 Touchdowns, 14.5 YPR. He put these numbers up with an inconsistent  5 foot 10 Quarterback with a weak arm that can barely throw for 100 something yards total in most of his games, on a team with a shitty inconsistent offense.

Let's compare him to the top 5 WRs of all time (in terms of total receivimg yards) and their rookie WR seasons :

> Jerry Rice: 49 receptions, 927 yards, 3 TDs, 18.9 YPR

> Larry Fitzgerald: 58 receptions,  780 yards, 8 TDs, 13.4 YPR

> Terrell Owens: 58 receptions,  520 yards, 4TDs, 14.9 YPR

>  Randy Moss:  69 receptions,  1313 yards, 17 TD, 19.0 YPR

> Isaac Bruce: 21 receptions,  272 yard, 3TDs, 13.0 YPR

I'd say Tmac is in pretty damn good company. Randy Moss was an alien lol.

I really hope Shough doesn't win OROY over Tmac.

Hopefully we aren't going to have to watch him play with Bryce for half of his career. Can you imagine if we had traded the pick to the Rams and he got to play with Puca, Stafford, and Sean McVay? He might have gotten 1500 and 14 TDs lol.

Just glad we got something positive to hang onto. I don't see the Panthers ever letting this dude go.

I think all we need is a speedy WR to complement him and Jalen Coker.

Ehh, I dont like the compared numbers there, ALL of those guys listed played in a VERRYYY different NFL.  A more run heavy and defensive NFL where as todays game has rookies pop for 1k regularly.  THAT SAID.  Theres one guy I think he absolutely compares to with his size and physicality and this numbers are as such...

68 Receptions, 1051 yards, 12 td, and 15.5 ypr as a rookie.

That guys numbers look almost identical to what TMac did and he did it in a more modern nfl.  That guy was Mike Evans and thats who I think Tmac will be for us.

I think someone asked tmac before the draft which WR he models his game after the most, and he said Larry Fitzgerald.

Heard other people comparing him to AJ Green and obviously the Mike Evans comparisons as well. NFLs draft profile compares him to Drake London

And we should be happy with hin being close to any of those comps.

He was a great draft pick so far. We took him as the #1 overall WR and he performed as the #1 overall WR. Couldn't ask for much more.

Hopefully he stays motivated and keeps getting better.

Yeah, era comparing is too weird.  Some WRs were out there in an era where you could be mauled your entire route and faced legal decapitation attempts at the catch

all numbers should be up for WRs in today’s game

One thing with records these days along with others noting how the game has changed, there's an extra game in the season, which TMac was able to take advantage of.

I'd have liked to see him break or shatter KB's record in 16 games. Regardless of that small thing regarding records. I'm excited to see the development of Tetairoa this year and I look forward to seeing how he develops himself with better help and play calling around him.

    • Nobody is giving up a 4th rounder for a backup QB And anyone who needs a starter badly enough to where Bryce would then be their starter, is such a bad team that they're not giving up a pick likely to be about pick 105ish overall, instead of just dealing with a bad QB situation for a season and then drafting one in a loaded QB draft next year. I'm looking through all the teams right now and can't think of a single one that would be willing to part with anything better than a 6th rounder. Barring injuries (and excluding the Panthers), there look to be 10 teams who don't know with 100% certainty who their starting QB will be in 2027... Dolphins, Jets, Browns, Steelers, Vikings, Colts, Saints, Falcons, Cardinals, and Rams. Of those 10...  The Rams know it will be Stafford or Simpson.  The Saints more than likely will be sticking with Shough unless he takes a huge step backwards.  So neither are giving up any draft picks for Bryce right now, just wouldn't make sense for either. Down to 8 Given their current QB situation of having multiple QBs they already need to evaluate between this year, the Browns (Shedeur/Watson), Vikings (Kyler/JJ), Colts (Jones/Richardson/Leonard), and Falcons (Penix/Tua), wouldn't be giving up a 4th (or maybe any pick) to bring in another QB to muddy the waters even more. Down to 4 Dolphins just signed Willis and wouldn't want to bring in another small Alabama QB who has struggled after just dumping Tua instead of just rolling with Ewers as the backup.   That then leaves the Steelers, Cardinals, and Jets left as it's clear none of them have any idea who their 2027 could be as of right now.  But the Steelers would for sure rather just see what one of the 2 QB's they drafted in the last 2 drafts could become than give up a mid round pick for Bryce.  Same goes for the Cardinals in taking Beck this past weekend. The Jets would be the most likely team to even consider taking him on, but I think it seems very apparent right now given them rolling with Geno and now talk of bringing in Wilson to be his backup, they're punting on QB this year to draft someone next year, so why give up even a mid round pick for Bryce?
    • Honestly I am not sure Pickett couldn’t step in for him. But I don’t see a clear easy upgrade and we are not KC with Alex Smith we are a team that hadn’t done poo for almost ten years and just made the playoffs. And looked good in the game. That stadium atmosphere on that day…. you know Tepper ate that poo up. Not one drink has been thrown in a while.  You had better make sure if you replaced him after that that you had a sure fire upgrade.
    • Makes sense. If Bryce is ass this year, we are probably drafting our new QB next draft and sitting him behind Bryce for a year
