Cam Newton looked “terrible” during his Scouting Combine workout

I don't attack credibility because it's a dumb argument that people on here use to often. Everyone has an opinion but some arguments are dumber than others, like using the Heisman argument.

I don't know why the second part is news. If the Panthers thought that Newton or Gabbert could be "franchise" QBs and they said they weren't going to take them, that would be newsworthy. Plenty of people who have been labled "Cam Haters" have said the exact same thing but you guys don't want to comprehend that part.

Right...

From watching the combine yesterday, I don't think it was so much an accuracy issue as it was things leading up to the throw itself. The analysts kept saying Cam as taking too long to drop back which led to rushing the throws and then overthrowing the out routes. His deep ball was great, which Jimmy especially sucks at. I thought once we got out of the athleticism area and into the throwing, the workout was a big letdown and blow to him being picked #1...

BUT, Gantt says he's still being considered and the inference is that with so much upside and his natural ability he's still tempting to take #1 but you know you'll have to work with him and bring him along.

I really see Newton as a true boom or bust pick. He is either going to be an absolute beast or a complete flop. I just have a feeling that he won't be an OK player.

Unfortunately, :iagree: :iagree: :iagree: :iagree: with this also.

But if he booms...... he will be dynamite (get it :D)

I think thats how everyone feels. I think it might be a situation like Carson Palmer or Aaron Rogers where you sit him a year or more and he catches Fire or like Alex Smith that never really gets it. Either way I think we are in a bad position when it come to QB. Even if there is a FA the pickings are slim, and no QB this Draft year or on our team is ready.

TBH, I would love to take Cam, let Shula tutor him and get him up on all his weaknesses, and I can totally see Matt Moore excelling in Chud's system in the meantime. I don't know why, but being that it supposedly is going to be a variation of the WCO with TE combo routes, I think Matt will do well in that system while Cam learns. Plug him (Cam) in here and there and let him learn on the job as well.

I would be good with that.

Moore seems like he'd fit Chud's offense.

Cam's strength is certainly a vertical passing attack, but he's got some throwing motion issues that worry me for the #1 overall.

I don't see anything with his "throwing motion" he has a great release, compact delivery, high rpm's.

He just has to get his footwork together. That is what was hurting him on the out routes. Not his throwing but his footwork. I am of the belief that it is an easy fix.

I am cool with Gabbert I just happen to like Newton more bc of his upside. And all along you were right they may not come to that conclusion.

Fixed for accuracy ;)

The only thing with his motion that has been mentioned is that he keeps the ball pretty far away from his body when he throws, more so than all the other QBs.

Most of his issues are with his feet though.

    • Yeah the only way current set up is fun is if every year a different tiny school builds a super team and makes a run. You just need 1 rich guy to say you know what would be funny, if I drop 30 million and my school has a shot at a national championship.   They won't ever do it but put some sort of tiered salary cap in place and sign them to 4 year deals. You can only transfer up or down tiers no lateral moves because mean ole coach at texas doesn't play me enough so I'm going to Tennessee. So a player at prairie view can transfer to texas and get paid more or a player from UNC can transfer to UNCG because he isn't getting playing time. If a guy is transferring "up" he can get a salary bump if the team has salary cap space. A guy transferring down has to stay at the same salary as he signed his 4 year deal for so the lower tier team would have to have the cap space to sign him. It would stop the money chasing for lateral moves but allow guys who improve massively at lower schools to make more money as juniors and seniors and hopefully keep more guys in one place because the contract is for 4 years.
    • Bryce youngs first starts for 3 years   51 of 103 49%     153 yards avg 6 ints 2 tds   But this is the year he turns it around
    • His third year was worse than Bryce's third year, significantly so.  And he had a game where he threw for 120 yards, two inteceptions, and had a fumble.  He had multiple games where he threw for more int's than td's.
