Evero and the pass rush

People say stuff like this.  Like the scheme didn't overachieve and get more out our roster than a lot of DCs would have.

The impediment to excellence is the offense.

I get your point, I just don't agree with it on its face. This wasn't the 2024 season. The defense was not on the field an inordinate amount of time. The fact is, is that though we drafted two pass rushers, we actually regressed a little bit in regards to total sacks and dropped significantly in pass rush win rate. We were 24th in 2025 (down from 10th in '24). We were ranked 28th in sacks in 2025 and 27th in '24. I bet you Jeff Ulbrich would've gotten more out of our guys in the pass rushing department, as I would bet that many DCs would have. Our pass rushing efficiency, or lack thereof, didn't really have anything to do with the offense in my mind--not in 2025.

And let's not even talk about third-down efficiency. It was just as bad if not a little worse.

But, this offseason, I would take away even more excuses by investing even more in the defense. If we can't get a pass rush going, then it's squarely an Evero issue. He has one of the best DTs in the league, as well as a pretty good pair of CBs, and one above average safety. Assuming that we upgrade safety and get a legit MLB, we should see a substantial improvement.

Evero's defenses have finished 23rd, 32nd, 29th and 30th in sacks.

He will likely never have a top 10 defense in sacks. It is scheme.

Brian Burns second lowest sack output was his season with Evero. It was also overwhelmingly the lowest Pressures he had ever had in his career.

If you want a high pressure, sack heavy defense, it is never going to be with Evero.

Exactly!

The defense did its job which is keep points off the board for the most part.  The drive before the Rams took the lead the offense has a 3 and out.  You don’t stop a Super Bowl contender offense by hoping they don’t win the game.  You do it by not letting them have the ball in the first place.

Also why didn’t Canales tell Evero to make sure the Rams score quickly if he was so keen to the situation.

Evero is just a symptom of Canales limitations as coach.

Supposedly Dave is very hands off on the defense or so he has said. I do think that does speak to some of those coaching limitations.

Yea I scrolled the entire front page of the threads and there was nothing about it before this one. Idk why it needs a whole thread when there’s already one having to do with the dc

As critical as I've been of Evero. The Panthers defense went from league worst giving up the most single season points in NFL history to middle of the pack. And we have significantly more resources including the highest salary cap % to the OL in the league tied up in the offense which finished 27th in total yards per game. The amount of smoke Evero is getting should be nothing compared to the heat Canales should be getting. Truthfully if we're trying to push one out the door we should be pushing both.
