That's why I say offer him a new contract at the rate I suggested.  If he were to out perform it then we can discuss redoing it or trade him.

So a one year deal for 12 mil, basically? Darnell Mooney got that this year.

if I was his agent I’d hold out and get a sign and trade worked out. Tampering doesn’t exist anymore. I mean Jesus the bills gave Josh Palmers bum ass 3 years 29 mil in 2025. He put up comparable numbers in an actual nfl offense.

The top free agent WR in 2026, assuming Jerry locks down Pickens, is looking like morbidly obese Deebo Samuel.

his agent should tell him to hold out while he sends pictures of XL to Dan Morgan every day.

He may choose that route. But it would not prevent me from trying to work out a long-term contract.

Certainly. I believe Morgan even mentioned trying to get something worked out.

I don't anticipate it to be anything significant in terms of length or amount. There really isn't any precedent for that that I am aware of. IIRC, that Shaheed deal was considered quite large for an ERFA.

The sooner we make a longer term deal with him, the better it will be. He's obviously already performed better than 99% of players with similar contracts.

It's rare for UDFA's to get to the point that he has but I will point out that Shaheed was significantly more successful and he still had a modest 2 year, $6.185 mil deal as an ERFA.

Hold out for what? They aren't required to pay him anything if he doesn't sign it, nor can another team sign him.

That would be a very bad look for a guy that is just starting to get his career off the ground.

If he is smart, he keeps the length of the deal very, very short(ideally 1 year) and he bets big on himself.

Jalen is the most productive receiver in the league per routes run.

now obviously this is just routes run/total yards and the scheme can play havoc with this calculation but he’s in good company. Puca is number 2.

im not sure that x axis is relevant, but my god Metcalf is just getting mugged.

Per next gen stats Jalen reached the top speed in the playoffs. Newton’s first law of motion stays winning.

Coker was also the best looking player on the field against the rams. To me he looks just like a young anquan boldin.

Coker made just over 830k in 2025. He is an Exclusive rights free agent in 2026. This means if the panthers tender him with a one year contract based on the league minimum, he has to play here or nowhere else. He’s not allowed (wink wink) to negotiate with other teams

In 2025 the ERFA was 1.03 million, or 3.1% what Joe person claims Bryce Young is worth annually.

three years is the cutoff to become vested in the NFL pension, with higher benefits per year accrued after that. For those that have never heard of a pension, back in the day before boomers “two in the heart, one in the head’d” future generations, your job handled your retirement.

Three years of service also unlocks a whopping five years of health insurance; big deal for a player who still qualifies for his parents coverage. Great system, NFL. Roman gladiators were treated better.

Electro, I just became a fan when Bryce got here and I can only name three people on the team. Why does this matter?

NFL players don’t make money for very long. 40% never get a second contract. A season ending injury can happen at any moment, especially when your qb is a blimp commander who can’t see over the offensive line.

Ickey was in line for a massive payday that he absolutely earned. He lost generational wealth (Chris rock joke here) with that patellar injury and who knows if he’ll ever play the same again. He’s certainly not going to get that new contract which is rough but it’s the way things go.

Coker absolutely should not play another down for the Carolina panthers without a new contract. He just had a huge coming out on the national stage and has the numbers and tape to back it up. He's the best wide receiver on the team. Yes I know tet got (a very chintzy) thousand yards but Coker is pound for pound the better player. And that’s saying something because Jalen loves him some orange chicken.

If he was a free agent this year he’d be the top WR on the market.

Panthers have a lot of (honestly very easy) cap choices to make. For whatever reason they’ve already verbally committed to Bryce’s fifth year and are floating a three year extension. They’ve started hemorrhaging offensive linemen, soul of the team JJ Jansen will need his 1.4 million if he comes back, and of course you gotta lock down Leadership Council stalwart Christian Rozeboom.

I would argue that instead of giving the worst qb in the league over the past three years another fuging dime you lock up and reward Jalen Coker. This shows the rest of the team that production is valued, regardless of draft position, and keeps Jalen in the building and team training program. Again, Jalen likes to eat.

Will the panthers recognize this? I wish I could say the panthers head coach is good at evaluating wide receivers but….yeah. Also Canales let him clear waivers to begin with.

Anyway Jalen should be the top contract priority fug Bryce fug Canales Hail Satan

I feel like he has earned a substantial raise and think he will get one.

Two year deal, enough to set him for life. Not his descendants, but there is a time for that.

There is little to no chance that the Panthers are going to make NFL history by signing an ERFA to a massive contract or a long term contract. That's not the way ERFA's work.

This is what I was thinking while reading the original post. He is going to get a very team friendly deal for three years at the most. This thread was teeming with posts like we are going to have to pay him Tee HIggins money or he's gone. 🤣

Teams would be interested in a sign and trade for him.

To flip this around, the panthers would then be in a position where they either get nothing from him and lose him in 2027 or trade him to recoup value.

or do the most panthers thing which is do a desperation extension after he’s held out for half the season and gotten fat.

Does Coker want his deal yet? We could use his ERFA and RFA years to our favor but all give him some extension years. Problem is that he isn’t getting top WR dollars because he isn’t there yet. If he believes he can be that guy, it might actually be better to play cheaper this year and get the big $$$s after he’s shown more the next two years.

Yes I was, but there are several posts including yours that he should or will hold out if not offered top league wide out money. I just inserted a WR name we can all recognize.

Not a single person in this thread has suggested he get “top league wideout money”

You are generally inventing a scenario that there isn't any actual precedent for, nor would this scenario help Coker.

Also, I don't think you are going to see anywhere near the compensation that Shaheed received and that was a 4th and 5th.

Ya'll need to calm down. Coker will be back under a very, very, VERY cheap deal and then we will move forward from there. Ideally he keeps getting better and he eventually is worthy of a very large deal.
