This was cool:

I like when he said, "If you look at our schedule, we have a lot of "athletic" qb's this year." I think it's important to look at signings as such, in conjunction with the schedule each year may bring. I hadn't though of that before, necessarily.

I always looked at it like, you have to win your division. You build your team to do that, primarily, and secondary to that would be the rest of the league. But the division is what you have to win. As we just saw, a losing record gets you a home playoff game if you can just beat your division foes. 1st goal, every year.

This is the goal for this team. It all starts there. Success starts with winning the division every year at bare minimum. Once you do that then you can worry about owning the nfc. Do that then we can talk championships.

I think that is the first goal of pretty much every team. No one seeks to make it in via WC, in August anyway. You take what you can get, but you always set out to win your division.

People look around at their division foes and say okay we can probably expect strong rushing attacks. So we’ll need a stout run D. Mandatory. Etc.

We drafted TD basically to spy on Vick. We could do nothing with him up until then. It kind of helped but they were still putting it on us too often for a while. You have to match up to your division.

Sure, inner division. But I never thought of signing one year players to match up to the remaining schedule better.

If you are doing one year contracts yeah I guess you should factor your opponents into it.

The one year contracts are mostly for placeholders until the can draft someone better. Sometimes they get a better FA so they have time to look for a draftee. Case in point, look at the safety we signed from the Raiders. We drafted his replacement the same year in Ransom. Mostly because he was bpa but the rookie needs time to learn from the vet. In time Ransom will take over when Merig is eventually released. There are vets all over the roster that needs a draft pick to eventually replace them.
