Unc Basketball thread

Calipari and staff are/have been the best recruiters for quite some time.  It’s amazing the players they have been able to get over the years.  This is huge

Just a few notes.

Malone's coaching salary pool is 4m, so UNC is paying the basketball staff 12.3m a season now.

Another one to look for is Brandin Knight from Rutgers, "was the lead recruiter for Ace Bailey and Ron Harper Jr."

So if that comes through the coaching staff would be

Michael Malone

Chuck Martin (AHC) (500k salary + 70k buyout)

Brandin Knight (Lead Recruiter) (400k)

Sean May (350k)

Pat Sullivan (400k)

"Open spot" (200-300k, this could be another big pull with the available budget)

Support staff

Eric Hoots (180k)

New GM - 1m

Rest of staff and support staff budget is roughly 1.8-1.9m or so.

Not sure many understand how big of a hire Chuck Martin is for the program. Was Kentucky recruiter and then the associate head coach and lead recruiter at Arkansas for Cal.

pretty much guarantees top 5 recruiting classes each year and a big haul from the portal.

So now he's got at least Sean May, Chuck Martin, Pat Sullivan on coaching staff and Eric Hoots on support staff right now.

At least two spots open on the coaching staff to go and the support staff.

You're also underestimating Calipari in those scenarios.

Calipari can say to a kid "I've put more impactful players into the NBA than any school over the last 20 years".  Michael Malone can tout that he was run out of the NBA for not understanding impactful players.

I wouldn't count any chickens yet on top recruiting classes and deep tournament runs.

On a side note, can't remember where, but saw some interview where the guy was saying the NBA All Star Game should be the USA vs World vs Kentucky - and then proceeded to list the players in the league from Kentucky who would legit give an All Star team a run for their money.  Pretty impressive what Cal did at Kentucky, not impressive on him not getting more nattys.

Knox is expected to follow Martin to UNC.

Not getting the "not understanding impactful players part. An afterthought of a 2nd round pick won three MVPs under him.

He's getting it in both threads cuz his takes are so bad

It's an ongoing theme. If you point out that he's being an idiot with terrible takes he just blocks you. The guy is probably seeing very few posters' comments at this point. I honestly didn't pay any attention to who I was actually responding to. Now it makes sense. LOL

Can you imagine constantly hating on all of your FAVORITE teams?

It's not hate.  It's reality.

Yall are for real in here defending the state of Carolina basketball, predicting top recruiting classes when nothing has changed 8 miles down the road where they've been kicking our ass in recruiting for YEARS, and banking that it's all fixed with these hires.

I hope you're right, unfortunately I think you're not.

I've been to every Final Four Carolina has been in during my adult life.  I've been to both Panthers Super Bowls.  If the Hornets play in anything meaningful, I'll be there too.  I root for these teams to win harder than anyone, but I also call a spade a spade.  Charles Lee sucks but the talent is good, Belichick sucks and who knows where that goes, and Canales sucks and so does the talent on the Panthers.

Go to the Hurricanes forum, I've never said a bad thing about that team because while they've fallen short the last several years, they aren't a bunch of dipshits doing dipshit things in games / during the season.

But y'all keep pounding your chests that OUR teams have arrived.  Can't even imagine the level of disappointment that comes with that.

The team that's been "kicking our ass for years" is in a longer title drought than us and has just become the new one year stop off for guys heading to the NBA as soon as they're eligible. They can have that crown.

Our last championship team was light on NBA talent but heavy on very good experienced college talent. Give me that. I'll let the dookies brag about elite NBA talent stopping over for a coffee in Durham and not getting to the big game.

    • I think i like the Oregon Safety better
    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
