Yas changes his mind again: "Panthers can't afford to take Newton"

Not really.

If the CBA doesn't get worked out, there'll be no season. If it does, even if it isn't until after the draft, there'll be some sort of free agent period.

You can't plan using a "draft picks only" strategy, especially considering that without the CBA, you can draft guys but you can't sign them.

What would be the point? We've already got a project QB (two in fact). Why draft another?

cause cam has more talent in his jock than pickles has in his whole body?

Not for the kind of offense we plan to run.

If we were going West Coast maybe, but since we're Coryell, I have no interest in McNabb (ditto Kolb and Gradkowski).

That was exactly my point, I don't think Palmer has enough arm left to be effective at throwing deep, which is a staple of the Coryell offense.

You can say what you want about the Bengals, the OC, etc... but there were quite a few times when it looked like Palmer just didn't have enough arm to complete the throws he was trying to make.

I don't think it matters if hes ready or not year one anyway. It really seems like the flavor of the month to even expect it. I'd like to hear this clowns opinion on if the Bucs should have taken Freeman.

Heres a dire possibility. We pass on Cam. Old vet/Clausen puts up a qb rating in the 70s next year that is just good enough win 7-8 games and price us out of getting a top flight qb prospect next year. I don't want to be the Dolphins in the 08 draft. They're suffering now for passing on Ryan.

Dumb a** logic again as to why not to pick Cam. So the Panthers "need a starter right away"..... Well, UH.....No Sh*t!!! They are going to go out and get one anyway so why not have the Veteran guy to start you bring in and have Cam and Clausen develope behind him!!

These reason to not pick Cam are just dumb an dumber..... the only one that would make sense is the one about whether or not he has the skills, etc to be a Franchise QB. If people feel no then fine, but all these others like we dont have a starter, or he will take 2-3 years, etc - just make no sense.

Most of us who do not support taking him do so based on teh skillset that he did not show at Auburn. He may be able to learn this skillset. But, I am not in support of using the #1 pick on a QB who you HOPE will learn to play the position in the next 2-3 years.

That should be the question and reason for picking Cam or not. It is whether Hurney, Rivera, etc think he WILL be a franchise QB and not hope. If they feel he will be then taking 2-3 shouldnt be an issue. The Panthers need to bring in a Veteran anyway.

    • Don't have to be miss cleo. His weakness are length, athleticism, creating his own shot, defense, finishing at the rim,  Strengths - shooting and IQ.   Likely won't work as non athletic shooters don't typically work.

    • I live in Indiana and took a trip that weekend to watch my two friend's teams play (Chiefs and Vikings) IN Minnesota when they were playing at a college field, I think TCF? Anyways, our plan was to watch the game (noon game) then do some shopping at the Mall of America, I wasn't planning on watching the Panthers play Seattle since I was out sight seeing and walking around after the noon game had ended. By the time we were walking back into the Mall the Panthers were down by 2 scores in the 4th or going into the 4th and we were all thirsty from walking around for 2.5 hours after the Vikings game so we decided to postpone shopping until after we ate. We found this nice little sports bar inside the mall that had the game on. Man, I'm so glad we skipped shopping because that was probably the most excited I've been in some time for a win. Beating Seattle in 2015 felt like the "monkey off the back" sort of feeling and I knew we had finally arrived as a team. The entire bar erupted when Cam hit Olsen for that walk off TD. Literally one of the greatest moments of my life. My friend wasn't so happy though lol, by the time the Panthers game ended ALL of the stores inside the mall had closed and he wasn't able to get any souvenirs. It was his first time watching a Vikings game live and making a trip like that so he was legit upset lol. I on the other hand couldn't have been happier.
