It’s amazing how well the d played tonight without Miller in the lineup.

Allowing 23 shots on goal, a lot of grade A's and Utah spending almost the entirety of the 2nd period in their offensive zone is nothing to write home about. Freddie had an outstanding afternoon, but the Canes were only 1 shot from being in a tie game for nearly 35 minutes.

Defense is definitely a concern going into the postseason.  We lose guys in front of the net way too often.  I'm not sure what happened this year, but we're out of position constantly.

Mix of two new regular rotation guys, plus all the injuries to the dline through the season. They never got time to gel, and because of that Rod didn't get a chance to move them around much til the end of the season after Slavin came back. Don't think he was 100% for most of the time he's played so they tried to protect Slavin by putting him with Chatfield who's the teams probably second best defensive defender normally.

Ideal scenario

You would have had time to gel and ended up with the following with more time played together going into the playoffs. 🤷‍♂️

Slavin - Walker

Miller - Chatfield

Nikishin - Ghosty

Mind you we also didn’t see those horrendous turnovers at center ice last game. That is the biggest issue. Other than him taking plays off or being straight lazy.

At this point, we all get it. You have a very strong dislike for Miller. So much so that not seeing him on the ice you think this is the best D in the league. So much so that even when he does play a complete game, you don't give him credit.

Even Taylor Hall said to Tripp the other night that it takes almost an entire season to figure out and get comfortable within the system.
