Problem is he had two good games against the Rams and people forget that the secondary was absolutely terrible hence all the offseason signings at DB. We have a 1st place schedule so we’ll find out. I would be very disappointed in an extension as a good OL and WR crew (if Brazzell works out) is going to be underperforming with Young.

This is my problem that I tried to point out above.

Bryces good game was:  21-40 260 yards 1 td 1 int  50% completion in the playoffs at home

This is what folks are saying a good game is.  Well I guess for him that is which is just not nearly good enough

I’ll give him points for his playoff outing. At least he showed up and did some good things in a pressure situation. If he could play to that level every week my opinion of him would be a whole lot better, I’ll say that. Big if though.

It sure earned him a ton of points with lot of people to the point that is all they need. Crown him. To them it is a given that he will fix his regular season yo yo pattern. Maybe they are still excusing him because we don’t have 10 pro bowl players around him. Yet.

And yes, look at what the Rams did about their secondary when FA started. Reminds me of the Carolina Reaper stuff where the coaches get fired for losing to him.

It wasn’t the secondary so much as it was the linebackers. Bryce’s best games came against teams with bad/injured linebacking corps. The falcons were starting people off the street in Atlanta.

i don’t know the name of the linebacker Bryce juked into the negative zone during the playoff game but i don’t think he deserves a name, tbh  that was pathetic

Now I wish I could explain to you the moves the rams made to address these issues but their draft especially is beyond the understanding of a simple fan like myself. Maybe the missing piece really was a qb who was benched during his final year at Alabama.

Without looking it up the Rams made a trade and they signed a FA. It was almost Morgan like in the way they attacked it. Okay I looked it up - They imported KC’s CBs, one in FA. The trade with KC included their original 1st round pick. That is probably more aggressive than Morgan even.

LBs may be bad but the plays I remember from the first meeting, it wasn’t LBs that were the problem. And I guess I am saying the proof is in the pudding, they revamped their secondary.

The Simpson thing is kind of irrelevant. But the criticism there is they were one player away type of stuff. In fact they put up points on Seattle just fine, it was stopping them that was the issue. They made big upgrades towards tightening up their defense. You can argue the Rams’ approach to that 13th or 12th pick with Ram fans all day.

I hope BY balls out this year... just to piss half of you guys off.

If he balls out, like a big boy QB I wouldn’t be pissed off. He balled out last year. A few times.  It will take a lot more times than what he did to get me there though.

Where I’ll be pissed off is if he has a 50/50 year and that’s considered good enough.

Well I think the hard truth is probably this.

BY is not a top 10 QB. A realistic hope is that he can become a 10-20 range QB.

A 10-20 range QB that is <25 years old is going to get a top of the market contract.

That is what will happen - and likely the smart choice.

What is the alternative?

- BY, will not play for less then his perceived contract (just like Cam Newton did). So you pay him top of market as befitting a 1st round, Heisman winning, playing birthing QB would get. Or you cut him.

- Then we are forced to either sign a stop gap QB / previously failed QB and try to fix him or you spend a 1st round pick and draft a guy, basically resetting the team.

The reality is that we all want a top 5 QB. The problem is there are only 5 of those guys in the world and drafting, even #1 overall doesn't guarantee that.

The other problem is the NFL market. Young QB get paid. Even an average, young QB gets top of market deals. I know a lot of people here think we could sign him to an 'average QB contract' but thats not reality. Didnt happen with Cam wont happen with BY.

So we could let this season flush out and he is again a middling QB. But then we cut and restart or accept it is what it is (including compensation) and build a team around what we have.

My money is on the latter.

I was looking at some draft grades of this yr(Panthers earned there B+) and I dint think i trust draft grades anymore.

Every single team on a lot of the shows got ether an A or like a B- at worst it's almost like hey you drafted SOME players here's a B to start with

Hell everyone was killing the Rams for the QB at #13  they still got Bs

Here is where I think you are off. WTF does what he did in college or where he was drafted have anything to do with how he plays 4 years into the league? Now, where he was drafted Does keep him on the team but it should have nothing to do with his next contract. Ancient history.
And he was a very up and down 8-9 including playoffs. Mostly down to be honest, by top half of the league standards. You don’t give that top of the market.

It would be much different if the team put nothing around him, and he carried them to 8-9 but that is so not the case. He is 1 of 11 at best.

Cam earned his money, Young earned the bench so far, you don't just give every QB top money ...

Plenty of 1st rnd QBs not get a big contract even 1st overall picks

Don't keep digging a hole deeper cut bait and change course, there have been better QBs drafted since Young's draft..

Look at the grades for 2023 lol. I think as a fan you make your own grade and the week after a draft, all you can do is go by if you think they did logical stuff and made good decisions.

You have to know that even the best make many wrong choices on college players and how they will project. And accept it.

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.
