NFL Draft rumors: Post-Combine

if there is any chance Rivera wants to eventually transition to a 3-4 wouldn't that make Dareus a more likely pick since he's bigger body than Fairley?

I don't think that is the direction we are going. I think the plan is to stay a 4-3 team for the foreseeable future.

Bunting can hardly be called a hater. He's previously had Newton going number one in his mocks.

anyone who doesn't think Cam is the best quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning is a hater on this forum

it's really getting annoying to be honest. I should start calling every Cam fan a hater for not wanting Patrick Peterson or Fairley or every other draft prospect.

But I thought we were "nut huggers"! If you start calling us "Haters" and we are calling you "Haters" it will start making things pretty confusing around here.

Plus I will have to change my title :)

For the record. I am in the #1 Cam, #2 Dareus, #3 PP group right now. With Gabbert an honorable mention.

I just think we need a QB and let the coaches do their job and coach em up. Our defense can always be better, but defense wasn't the issue last season.

But I won't cry if we go get Dareus, PP, or Gabbert.

But please, keep calling us "Nut Huggers" so it doesn't get confusing.

Plus "Hugger" has a nicer connotation than "Hater" so I think we win in the labeling aspect of the debate.

True, but if they couldn't decide it seems Dareus would atleast provide the flexibility to play in a 3-4, can't see Fairley in anything but a 4-3

That said, unless one of them is every bit as good as Suh(doubt it), I want either PP, AJ or QB wildcared(cam, Gab) or trade down and grab Marvin Austin hopefully in 3rd or just sign a quality Free Agent and worry about DT down the road.

I don't think there's any chance of that. I'd be fine with Dareus, though.

Since you are one of the clearer thinkers here, i want to pose a question.

Since we are going to stick with the 4-3, and many teams going 3-4, is there any reason not to trade E Brown to a team needing an OLB for 3-4?

Right now, he seems like dead weight for a 4-3 team and an embarrasment that we traded up to nab.

I am sure Mr Scot wil answer your question but my 2 cents.

E Brown couldn't play linebacker in the 3-4. He is not great against the run and would be very suspect against the pass. His best chance to play is to bulk up and learn something else beside the spin move.

before that draft, many on Sirius were talking up Brown for Green Bay who was picking in the twenties. playing OLB in a 3-4 would suit him better at his weight

thinking him bulking would slow him too much

I dont think you'll get much value for Brown, though he hasnt been a total disappointment. He just hasnt produced like a guy you would give up next year's first rounder for. If you guys were to get a couple beasts in at DT (Darius/Fairley + Powe/Fua/McClain) you could see a great turn around in Brown's play.

I am a 49er fan and with our OLB woes for the past few years i was pissed that we traded brown away to you guys. He's just a little short and light to be productive 4-3 DE, imo.

I dont think that there will be any permanent changes to a 3-4 defense, but Rivera will use some personal schemes of the 3-4 on our team. And Dareus will gives us that versatility for him to be able to do that. Also he said that he will run an aggressive blitzing defense and that make Von Miller a little more attractive also. By him been a great pass rusher and us blitzing alot that could get us alot of sacks and make up for an not as good Defensive line.

Interesting indeed.

I think the Fairley vs Dareus comparison is much like the Newton vs Gabbert debate. One is a safer, yet less dynamic pick. Fairley and Newton have higher ceilings than their counterparts, but both also have lower floors, they're both your typical boom or bust candidates.

See, I hear this from time to time, but I don't understand just where it's coming from. I have questions about Gabbert's toughness and I'm not sure it's any less of a concern than Newton's issues. If I am wrong though, and Gabbert is the safer pick, we'll be retarded not to take him. I'm sure Joe Montana wasn't known for his upside coming out of college, neither was Peyton Manning. Even if Gabbert doesn't reach those heights, he can still become a superbowl winning QB like Eli. GDI, I want to hear more analysis on this guy.
