Rivera Hitting Road For Newton

Why can't the anti-Newton folks accept the idea that he, at the very least, is being seriously considered? There's more than enough clear evidence of that at this point. I'm not saying the idea of a smokescreen is outright wrong, but at the same time it's clear there's legit interest here.

Young has all the physical tools and ability to be a great NFL QB. His problems are mental. I don't see Newton as having those same issues.

Yeah...Newton's only issues have been cheating on tests, stealing laptops, and playing college ball for money

I'm more or less anti-Newton. I'd rather we didn't draft him, but won't be upset if we do. I definitely acknowledge there's a very real chance we draft him. If I had to make a prediction RIGHT NOW who I thought the Panthers were going to draft, I'd say Cam. But it's not what I'd prefer. I'd rather we trade down and get a 2nd round pick. Barring that, I'd like an AJ Green or Patrick Peterson or Marcell Dareus. But I'd probably put Newton at #4 on my list.

Those are character concern issues, not intelligence issues. Young is as dumb as a box of rocks, not to mention a complete headcase.

And of those three only two are actually real allegations (cheating, taking money) and of those two only one is actually a real issue in the world of football (taking money) and of that one only none actually matter in the pros.

He was never accused or suspected of stealing a laptop, merely buying a stolen laptop - which he may or may not have known the origin of. I don't know, and the "but he threw it out when the cops came!" argument is weak, plenty of things could have led to that other than he knew WHEN he bought it. Someone could have told him "the cops are coming, they think your laptop is stolen merchandise!" or something to that effect. I'll say it is MORE likely he knew it was stolen, but far from a guarantee. And buying a stolen laptop is a FAR lesser act than actually stealing one. For a related example, how many have had the opportunity to buy pirated dvds and chosen not to do so because it was morally wrong?

Let's wait and see what Newton's Wonderlic score was. Odds makers have set the over/under at 15.

Yea, there's exceptions to the rule, but the latter 3 are from a different era. McNabb, well he's special. I have conflicting feelings about him. I do think he's always gotten a raw deal in Philly, but I'll always hold a grudge against him for single handedly throwing away the Eagles opportunity to end the "Patriots dynasty" before it got a full head of steam. That was the year after we lost to the Patriots in the Super Bowl and I've never rooted for a team that wasn't the Panthers as hard as I rooted for the Eagles in that SB and McNabb ruined it for me.

Mike Vick had a low score. Daunte Culpepper had a sub 20 wonderlic and was an MVP. David Garrard had a low wonderlic. If I remember correctly McNair had a bad wonderlic and he was an MVP.

Wonderlic is important but way too overvalued in some people's eyes IMO.

I value the score for QB's more than other positions, but it isn't everything. Have you seen some of the questions on sample tests that are available?

And it's important to note that we don't know Cam's score. He may have scored well; we don't know. It's also important to note that most high-scoring QB's on the wonderlic don't do all that well. I saw a list not long ago and the best QB's were around 18-30 score-wise.
