Would you be ok with a Trent Dilfer, if you got the defense that came with him?

The other 3 QBs in the AFC North during the 2000 season that Trent Dilfer had to contend with to make the playoffs:

Akili Smith

Tim Couch

Kordell Stewart

Now put those up against Matt Ryan, Drew Brees, and Josh Freeman

Yeah bad, bad comparison.

AFC North in 2000 may have had the worst stable of QBs in NFL history.

Not a comparision by any means. When I think of a great defense, I think of keeping a team under 20. With a QB leading an offense that averages 20 points a game that would win most games. A great defense is able to stop good QBs too ya know, otherwise they aren't great.

I get what you are saying but with the way the rules are designed nowadays trying to have a great defense like that is really, really unrealistic.

When you consider the caliber of QBs we will be facing in our division it is even more unreasonable to think that.

We had a pretty good defense last year but we still got blasted bc they saw the field @70% of the time.

If we had the Ravens 2000 defense last year we still would have sucked if they had to play 70% of the game.

I didn't say that I just asked how it wasn't a winning record which you said it wasn't.

I already stated I think our offense will be middle of the road next year at worst just by getting rid of Davidson and Clausen and if we go DT #1 and with Rivera I think our defense will be excellent.

A lot of things can happen but I'd take our chances with that scenario

THe defense is going to be good whether we go defense or all offense in the draft as long as we get a few free agents.

With that being the case why would we want a middle or the road offense when we could do much better down the road. During the Fox era the inconsistency of the offense is what doomed them more than poor defense.

The years we went deep in the playoffs were when we had good offenses for the most part.

You need to fix the unit which is broken not the one where you are going to do the best, anyway. The offense is broken not the defense. It makes a lot more sense to improve the offense instead of the defense.

You must be great in at least one area. Our defense won't be great next year without some new additions in the draft.

Our offense will not be great next year even if we spend all picks on offense and it would likely be worse if we drafted a QB #1 overall.

Being great on defense and solid on offense will get you into the playoffs

I agree it is harder to be a great defense. However, IF we could develop a great defense than a Dilfer would be fine. If we had the Ravens 2000 offense last year we would have scored more points and our defense wouldn't have been on the field so long so bad argument :D

guys why not just f*cking blow the whole thing up and bring 11 new starters next season, whenever it decides to arrive

will you be f*cking satisfied with the talent level then?

If they're better than our current 11 starters then hell yeah

Hopefully just the change in philosophy will help some next year.
