Scouting Tracker

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Tracking the private workouts the team is having with potential draftees as well as other general scouting news.

Private workouts so far:

Ryan Mallett

Cam Newton

Private Workouts Scheduled:

Blaine Gabbert

Patrick Peterson

Private Meetings:

Patrick Peterson

Cam Newton

Notes: No word of private workouts or meetings yet with any of the top DT prospects, though to date the Panthers have reportedly scouted more players at that position than any other (Marcell Dareus, Nick Fairley, Phil Taylor, Corey Liuget). Also no info yet regarding the Panthers and receiver A J Green or any of the top defensive ends. As has been mentioned though, these things are not absolutely reliable as predictors of who the Panthers will draft.

There's no need to assume they aren't content with Clausen. They've all but said it.

The Panthers aren't endorsing him as a starter, but they're not cutting him either. He'll get a chance to show whether he can do it or not.

No guarantee that he's replaced with a draft pick though. Could just as easily go with a veteran.

I'd prefer a veteran. Because I don't see a franchise QB in this draft that could be a leader for years to come. Not one. I'd take DT or CB #1, but I would prefer to trade down and grab Palmer.

For the record, I wouldn't necessarily read too much into the lack of private meetings with DTs, for two reasons:

First off, defensive tackle is a more instinctive position than quarterback or corner. That's not to say you'd be comfortable having an idiot at that spot, but when scouting you'd probably see less need to pick their brains than you would a more cerebral spot like the previously mentioned.

And of course, there's also the fact that just because they haven't happened yet doesn't mean they won't happen at all.

Most of the discussion seems about whether to take a veteran or a draft pick if we go quarterback. Frankly if we can find a vet that we can afford we need to consider both a vet and a draft pick. One for 2011 and the other for down the road. Until we find our franchise guy we need to make sure we do everything we can to have more than 1 legitimate choice or even two. No Pike isn't a choice and Moore and Clausen are both big question marks.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
