Hey honey, I bet you had no issue cashing those checks did you? Oh and if thins are so horrible for your husband after 8 years or so in the league, why did he just sign to play even more years doing MORE damage to himself with Cleveland last year? You look at your husbands post career issues, his staph infections blah blah blah and when it came time he could retire....you looked at the paycheck and said keep bringing me the money.

My opinion on this issue is thus, tough poo. I don't believe anyone forced these guys into the 'slavery' of the NFL. All knew the risks, all keep re upping and taking that paycheck. If they don't put back some of those millions they make for post career life and issues, tough poo.

I'll give you credit. You make no effort to hide your hatred of the players.

looks like a lot of people have the tact to not say it, so I'll be blunt about it I couldn't care less about the long term health and well being of the players.

Frankly, it doesn't bother me one way or the other.

You know really thinking on it the way these players are forced to play football, against their will, is simply a travesty of the highest order. I mean, I just know that if given the option many would become an accountant. or would work at an animal shelter or become teachers or firemen or policemen etc.

But alas, Society has pushed them into careers that are dangerous for their health. Society has said to these poor, warriors "You have no choice! You must risk your safety!" and become multi millionaires in the process.

I thought this was America. I thought people had a choice. This whole situation makes me sick.

I thank God for this lockout and hope it is permanent. Only then will these brave, brave men be free of the slavery that is football.

I think the comments made directly to the article are very apt. If you have millions of dollars, there is NO reason that a COBRA plan after your career wouldn't easily cover you for the rest of you life. I am unaware of any health insurance policies that mandate 10s of thousands of dollars for family coverage every year.

Right? I mean... having a free ride through a 4-year scholastic program doesn't help in your life after football at all ya know.

Wait... she means the players which also made a ton of money can't take care of their own health?

NFL conditioning and medical care is the BEST in the world. Period. You can't ask for a higher level of concern for player health, because an injured player isn't going to play games.

The post-career health care is equvalent or better than what other people get from their companies in the rest of the world when they leave their job.

Entitlement America! Yay!

Until the military gets million dollar contracts for deployments, patrols, combat, rescue ops, etc, then I have no sympathy. These guys peruse glory and riches, or men and women in uniform peruse freedom for us and others. How many NFL vets are sporting prosthetic limbs because theirs was blown off on foreign soil for little more than minimum wage?

What about firefighters, cops and medics who go go into highly dangerous situations everyday, not just on Sundays to the benefit of others?

I'm not admonishing the owners either, but this is what's wrong with professional sports and our culture as a whole.

That is also their choice. Vets, Firefighters, Cops don't get drafted so they are aware of the dangers associated. FYI Cops and Firemen have huge unions that look out for them just like the players.

We have traded a fortune to draft a guy #1 overall that people have lowered standards for to the point that not playing like Jimmy Clausen and looking like a poor man's Kyle Allen occasionally is worthy of a contract extension making him one of the highest paid QB's in the league.       this one is gold:     Bryce has a cult inside the Panthers fanbase that has truly developed some NPC hivemind. I'll never understand how he's captured the true essence of the casual fan like that.
