Mentoring young Cam

Recommended Posts

Cam Newton is labeled a thug yet I'm not doing a good job. Smitty has been arrested btw

You want to argue that Cam Newton isn't a thug? You can argue that, but you'll do better if you stick to discussing what Newton himself did.

Suggesting that Roethlisberger isn't a thug, or that Steve Smith is? Dumb arguments, and they do nothing to bolster your position :nonod:

Those rape charges were dropped right?

Bungled would be more like it, and/or prevented via intimidation.

OJ was acquitted too,if you wanna go that route.

Charges were dropped against Smith too, but he's "the biggest thug of all", right? :frown2:

You''ve got nothing here, dude. Stick to arguing about Newton.

I don't really see Cam Newton as a thug... well, not right now.

Made stupid decisions in his youth? Check.

Some character concerns, many related to that? Check.

Just don't see "thug." I sometimes get the feeling of arrogance and lack of humility, but most of his interviews I think he represents himself well and sounds like a young man working to better his image. I don't really see thug in him at all, I guess... just someone who has made some silly decisions in the past and has made some recent blunders related to his image.

Yeah, Newton's a real thug. He wears his pants low so it's obvious.

Imagine the cred Cam would have in prison after they learned he bought a stolen laptop and cheated on a test in school.

That wouldn't even buy him respect in one of the country club jails.

I don't see "thug" either, though I do think he has some character concerns. So does Mallett (get the "Ryan Leaf" vibe from him). Don't really see any character issues with Blaine Gabbert.

But then, none of that really matters from my standpoint, does it? I don't want a quarterback because...

a) I think we need experience at that position, not more youth

b) None of the available guys strike me as good enough to be worth the #1 pick

c) What would be the point of using lower picks when we just did that last season?

That's why I don't generally bother with the character discussions. It doesn't even get that far with me.

If I thought drafting a QB was a good idea, then I'd be up for discussing which one was better. But from my position, what's the point? :sosp:

Actually some teammates have recently spoken against Cam and his attitude, especially as it pertains to being bigger than everyone else.

Honest question, because it is always good to separate fact from fiction...where is the statement above coming from? I saw one blurb from Bunting in the NFP saying this, but have yet to see anything else even hinting at this problem.

If there are substantial reports floating around about this issue, I would appreciate it if someone could point me in that direction.
