Throwing Sh*t at the Wall (WR+QB)

Guess what? This ain't no Cam Newton thread!!

I'm gonna throw out one of those trade down scenarios because we can possibly get two offensive playmakers near the top of the first 2 rounds to elevate and redefine our team: AJ Green and Colin Kaepernick

Basically trade with either Buffalo or Cincy and nab their 2nd rounder

Now yeah, its all just wishful thinking in the end, but let me have some fun with this. Our Super Bowl team had a crop of receivers, and it seems people our satisfied with the Smitty/Gettis/LaFell/Armanti setup.

I don't get this especially considering the history of the sophomore slump not only in general at WR in the NFL, but within our own history. Green becomes our new #1, Smitty begins moving into Phroel territory (from a teammate standpoint, I know they are way different players), we have in my opinion a Miles Austin type in Gettis possibly and a great clutch catcher and occasional dropper in LaFell, much like young Moose.

Our expectations for our group of sophomore receivers who have a bunch of potential may be blinding the need for a stud #1 receiver. Green is just fantastic, explosive and a game changer type player. When it comes down to it, he elevates our offense the most out of any character in this draft...maybe even in the long term imo.

Now on to the 2nd: Kaepernick is no doubt a project, but not long term imo depending on how we use him year one. I would really like to see us use him similar to how we could use Cam in a first year if we end up drafting him first. Basically, have the vet start and as the season progresses use the young guy on certain play types, similar to The Golden Calf of Bristol/Orton. With this, he becomes more acclimated to the offense at a steady pace, he'll have time to really get a strong throwing motion down, and adjust to the speed of the NFL. Plus, we're using him in a smart way for developing a QB in this day and age. Thinkin people either assume a guy is a long term project or instant success...nope. I love the one year phase in strategy wayyy more than the one year sit out and learn on the sidelines.

Kaepernick is another dynamic and explosive player with a huge arm (He could possibly have the best arm in the draft)

I just see us benefiting greatly from a WR + QB scenario, then DT (Don't forget how deep this draft is at DT...Fua, Powe, Ellis). We need offense when it comes down to really wanting to keep up with the Falcons, Saints, and Bucs. We had a strong defense last year that held their own in a throwaway season even with a mediocre line plus Johnson. I absolutely think Peterson is gonna be a star but Green is his equivalent to added talent on the side of the ball we need help at most. That is why I say Green > Peterson from our perspective and if we trade out of the first pick, its the way to go.

Now commence with the ripping of my idea... :)

If we're not taking Newton or Gabby Gabberson at #1, then I'd prefer Ponder or Stanzi. Ponder will probably go mid 1st, though, so I'm on board with a Green and Stanzi combo plate...still rather have Dareus, though.

I mean, its hard not to absolutely love Dareus...that kid is a mother fuggin monster. Plus he fills a huge void on our team that needs major filling, but like I said we NEED to elevate this offense. Its just not up to par with the rest of the NFL with our current crop of players. The D actually managed well until they got so damn tired last season. The best way is to catapult our offense is to either take Newton at one or finding a way like I drew out to get Green.

But yeah, I'd be totally down if we somehow went Dareus or Peterson. Both are instant impact players, but of course on defense.

Stanzi could be great, but he has an issue that's kept him from being a 1st round pick: consistency. Also, I look at the ceilings of the rest of the QBs after Newton/Gabbert/Mallet and see Kaepernick with the highest above Locker, Ponder, Stanzi, Dalton (Who's is 2nd in my book behind Kaep).

Not a fan of Kaepernick. Has a weird throwing motion that might need to be sped up and doesnt protect the ball well when he runs. He holds it with two hands in front of his body instead of keeping it up against his chest. All I am saying is we dont need another project.

Again, good chance he's not still there in the 2nd.

I understand but I'm thinking he could fall and its hard to project where some of the QBs go this year b/c other than the Seahawks (Who are enamored with Locker for some reason) there are not many QB needy teams in the second half the first. Theres no way Kaep becomes a top-12 pick, therefore he slides to the 2nd. If this fantasy trade is with the Bills or Bengals, we are in position to draft him, Stanzi, Dalton, maybe Ponder but not likely. Also just to consider: If there's no QB movement in the late first, another scenario for other teams is that someone may bite on a trade to grab Locker, Ponder or possibly Dalton. Like I said consider nearly every team in the second half of the draft rounds are set at QB.

Continuing to pass on first round talent QB's is not going to help us move in the right direction not to mention Kaepernick is the raw QB people claim Cam is...

We got a first round QB talent last year and like I said, I'm throwing sh*t at a wall...not necessarily expecting it to stick.

It all comes down to Colin being committed to changing his game a la The Golden Calf of Bristol and I think it could happen with our new QB focused offensive staff. I trust them with whoever we draft and I think they can possibly coach up some of these QB prospects quite well. Dalton and Stanzi are the two others that could do well in our system. That's why I'm thinking about this, but I'm open to taking Newton as I mentioned. He's awesome, but Green is too and the level of wideouts after Hankerson isn't that special. I basically think Green is at/above Newton impact wise and the rest of the crop of wideouts simply don't have the potential to that of this mysterious QB class at their respective positions.

But seriously, that third round pick is essentially a second

with that pick (after drafting Green in the first) you could trade for (assuming cba is in place)

Matt Flynn

Kyle Orton

Brian Hoyer

Josh Johnson

Any of those guys have a better chance then any qb we are getting in the third..

Yeah, that be a great way to get a young vet if a CBA is in place. Flynn and Hoyer are the only two that interest me. I don't think Orton is going anywhere and Johnson seemed like a very erratic player. If we can get Flynn or Hoyer for a third, I'd say hell yeah. But if we try to do this, I'd still prefer trading down to get 2 picks before this trade. Then instead of a QB in the second, you get a DT or CB. But really, I don't see us moving around that much on draft day.

    • Why? AI already taking jobs, running up power bills, drinking all the water and just bad for the environment but hey lest try to shoehorn another useless way to use it.
    • I'm going rogue in R1 but there's so much confusion around us. Last year, we were going Walker or Williams and caught folks off guard with TMac. The previous year we LOVED Legette and it was no surprise when his name was called. This year, I think we nail three areas that weren't totally addressed in FA.  R1 - Kayden McDonald Full disclosure, I want Thienemann here, but think he goes before 19. Some might see an "overdraft" but McDonald unlocks so many people on our D. Having a DT the caliber of McDonald let's Lloyd, Wallace and the newly drafted Hill flood the offensive backfield. Also opens up Moehrig and our EDGES to eat. Lastly, it also removes all the pressure on DB to be the primary facilitator in the trenches and A'Shawn will be missed. I don't care about Turk. McDonald is the only true DT worth of a R1 grade and Morgan seals up our trenches here w/ a kid from a blue blood school. R2 - Anthony Hill Jr *trade up*  I love JRod, but think a smart team takes him at the end of R1 (Seattle, NE w/ two d-minded coaches). Hill, Jr is a beast and lost in the shuffle with all the Styles/Allen/Rodriguez hype. He and Lloyd with DB and McDonald up front and flanked by Scourton/Phillips is nasty.  R3 - Hecht/Lew/Center du jour Let's stop the madness with ignoring this position in the draft. We need one and should start normalizing the capital invested in our OL with someone on a draft contract. He won't need to start day 1, but I think the right selection will push for starter reps. R4 - Bud Clark Not sure if he's here in R4 where we pick, but would fit the "type" of FS/roamer that we need opposite Moehrig and Ransom. Allows us to run 3-safety looks and really keep teams guessing with personnel packages. R5 - Kendrick Law The kind of WR we need. IDK if he's any different than Horn, Jr or Metchie but Law could be a dart throw that brings a deep threat to our WR corps I'm guessing one of the R5 picks is used to move up in R2 along with a '27 day 3 pick.   Post-draft, I sign Njoku to bring in a vet at TE. I'm also keeping my eyes open for pre-week 1 team cuts for a young CB that we could bring in to maybe plan for Mike Jack's departure next year. Flame away.... I know the McDonald pick will not make people happy.
    • Classic example on what AI is not currently good for.  It will create a baseline of statistics (which are fine but must be used alongside tape and other evals) and partner that with every rumor mongering dips*&$t on the web.
