Nothing wrong with Clausen, I do however see alot of problems with so called fans.

you do realize we are talking about Jimmy Clausen right? The guy who lined up at the quarterback position this past year?

What about those of us that thought he should be cut before camp last season?

lol.. if he shows absolutely no improvement in 2 years, release him... but to replace him with the likes of another Hunter Cantwell doesn't make much sense to me.

Clausen will be given every opportunity to compete just like whatever veteran, rookie, journeyman QB we bring in. He might become more expendable if/when we find someone who can perform on a consistently high level, but I don't see a scenario where he is shipped off or traded prior to the season.

yes I do CRA, jeebus, he was a rookie drafted in the 2nd round. He wasn't drafted #1 overall, wasnt the best qb in the draft. Hes going to need more time to develop. For what he was thrown into, I think he did well.

you think he did well?

Yes, he was drafted in the 2nd round. Most undrafted rookies have looked better. Clausen wasn't just bad b/c of a bad scenario......he was almost historically bad. He wasn't just bad for rookies in 2010.....he was bad for rookies from 1990-2010.

Sorry man, i can buy the angle he was put in a tough spot......but he was bad regardless with zero improvement. He did not handle a bad situation well....he handled a bad situation as bad as you could handle it.

Well, there is a huge difference between looking for QBs week 9 of a season......and before a season starts.

New HCs generally move on from the QB roster leftover very quickly.

I think Rivera drafts Cam and brings in a vet....that leaves 1 spot up for real competition.

If I were Rivera I would want my 3rd spot to be filled by a young guy who fits what my offense asks of a QB. I would bring in Matt Moore type QBs to compete with Jimmy and Pike. Best man gets the job. I don't see Clausen beating out Moore caliber QBs (and there are plenty to be found prior to the start of a season by one means or another).

Clausen doesn't appear to fit what Chud claims to be about......and he looked like a train wreck (one of the worst rookie performances in 20 years). Why waste a needed spot with a QB who doesn't fit the style of offense you run?

If Jerry brought in a WCO coach....my opinion on Jimmy would be different.

On the worst team out of 31 other teams.

Um, b/c of QB play.

Good D, good backfield, good OL, decent WRs. Add in some of the worst QB play that has been seen in 20 years by a rookie and that is what you get.....he was so bad he sabatoged everything.

I never saw anything from a playcalling perspective that would have me believe that Clausen was historically bad without a lot of the blame falling on the coaches.

Name a rookie in the past 20 years you are certain performed worse than Clausen.

I don't have a list of how well rookies performed over the last 20 years..

and that has nothing to do with my statement.. I said,

other QBs performed with Fox/Davidson calling plays.....Carolina went 12-4 with that type coaching/play calling. Only difference is Jake wasn't horrific then. Matt Moore performed well in in 09 with the same type play calling. Jimmy was painfully bad.......and 3 bad quarters by Moore doesn't mean the team around Clausen was bad.

Difference between 12-4 and 2-14. In 08 the QB completed passes to Steve Smith and the pass was a threat. In 10, Steve was ignored and Jimmy wouldn't throw and let plays develop......he brought everyone on both sides of the ball down.

looking at it in black and white, I would think the same thing..

having a vet QB in Delhomme and a rookie in Clausen means you cater to each differently. I never saw anything that I could view as calling plays to benefit your rookie QB.

matter of fact, I never saw that with Delhomme either.. We never called plays to get our QB into rhythm. But having a rookie and a vet would clearly show different results.
