Article about Auburn passing attack

I just watched the two tapes on there. Only two games I've seen besides the National Championship to be honest. Really don't know why he is considered such a hot prospect from these three... he has a rocket and can run but he messed up the simplest of passes. I know that the three teams he played had good defenses but uh... aren't defenses really good in the NFL? Does anyone have his stat lines vs great opponents and bad ones?

Anyone got links to the games were he enters BEAST MODE for me to feel better?

Cam is the best QB in the draft period. For him to come back from a deficit like that against Alabama (who's defense is very similar to the NFL) is amazing, I don't think Locker, Mallett or Gabbert could have maintained the mental stability he did.

The Alabama video in that OP article is good to watch for both Dareus & Newton. Honestly it showed that Newton is great at making in game adjustments imo. That comeback shows that he is a leader and can be the best on the field general than we've ever had here.

Cam Newton's ability is just too much to pass up. The only areas of concern that mean anything to me are the character issues. In my opinion it is not a solid reason not to take Cam with the first pick. I was looking at the draft history of the past 20 years and it is really interesting how much of a gamble the draft seems to be. It is great fodder for talking heads and people like myself who love to share ideas, but the bottom line is that there is a fifty percent chance that the Panthers, (and all teams for that matter), will make the wrong pick. The only thing for sure will be the 100 percent chance of whatever the pick is that it will make good discussion for the summer months.

He had a great college career. We have other weapons, especially if we keep #34 and #89. He only needs to be good, not great, to be successful in the short run.

We have much better RB's and O line than he had in college, a nice safety valve in veteran Shockey and a high risk high reward receiver in Smitty with Gettis and LaFell. We don't need him to be a world beater yet, just not turn it over and not to play scared.

That was a fun game to watch. I also noticed when watching that replay that he makes a lot of reads. You can not honestly watch that and say that he is a one read and run guy. His accuracy does need work but all of his bad throws were off balance. He needs to work on his balance and footwork.

What I am most impressed with is his ability to sell a fake. I think that is huge in the NFL. One of Big Ben's best attributes also.

I am with you. Its definitely why they included that piece of video with the article. He clearly looked at multiple receivers instead of running.

I think he's a lot better in the pocket than people give him credit for. When Auburn was surging back, he could have ran on those big passing plays, but he kept the play alive with his legs, stepped up, and threw downfield. Very impressive against one of the best D's in the country (Dareus & Co.)

The next two weeks are going to be interesting. JT Greensboro, I think there is doubt about Cam, but he does have the ability. If we draft him, I hope you are right. As with Clausen, I support all who wear the black and blue.

Agree 100 percent. And just to add to this a bit...notice how he keeps his eyes downfield when he is forced out of the pocket.

The whole 1 read and run thing is BS, and indicates people have not done their homework.

And let's also consider how helpful it will be to have a QB under center that the skill players don't hate.

    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
    • Winning ain't gonna make my eyes lie to me. Context matters, and it will always matter in the game of football.
    • That TD pass to Legette against Miami. Elite. The play where Bryce rolls right to buy time until Tet can reverse field.  Bryce pumps as multiple defenders close in.  He barely gets it away before he takes a big time hit.  Beautiful off platform throw and great catch by Tet.   The second TD to Tet against Dallas where Bryce dips and turns his shoulder in to evade the pass rusher.  Resets and finds Tet in the end zone. Dude embodies the Keep Pounding mantra.
