Where are they handing out these rose-colored glasses? I just showed where Cam Newton ran more times than Michael Vick and Vince Young combined in their senior season's, and you still try to argue that Cam Newton is not a run-first, scrambling QB. Unbelievable.

I just showed you real numbers that Cam passed more than he ran. Maybe you mean the way he runs from the defense then looks to throw downfield like this

IMO his arm is underrated due to the fact that he was running over people last year like he was Adrian Peterson. Whether he's run first or not that's debatable He's a real dual threat QB though he can run AND pass. It's only twisted as a negative when he's said to only be a running QB which is not true if you look at his stats and Auburn games.

Calling him a run first qb is a bit of a sucker punch. Its a way to say he can't pass and is all legs. That is why the run first tab is b.s. If gabbert is viewed as a pocket or mobile qb and had worse passing numbers than newton how is he only a run first qb?

I am not saying that Newton can't pass. I am saying that he is a run-first QB. When his first or second read isn't there, he is automatically thinking "RUN". Where he should think, "Ok where is my 3rd progression, or hot read", depending on the play. This is my definition of a run-first QB.

You don't watch enuff film. Clearly if you've been listening to anything people have been saying about cam on passing plays he only scrambled 11% of the time. So oviously he wasn't thinking i'm going to run! His production on the ground was only due to the fact he was good at it and his coach called up the play. I think it should be celebrated not looked at as a flaw.

Is it his fault he was asked to run as much as he did? no,When the coach called up a pass play thats exactly what he went out there and did not run around like a chicken with his head cut off.

No one is saying it is Cam's fault.

We are just pointing out that Run First QB's have not translated well to the NFL.

Given this, there is definitely more risk and unknown in Cam.

All QBs pass more than they run... I don't get your point. Cam's ration is about 1:1, run:pass. That is amazingly high compared to Vick and Young. That's is what I am getting at.

you should of left this alone a long time ago. now you say all qb's pass more than they run. Wouldn't a running or run first QB run more than he passed or at least have better stat in running. He ran better than Vick and passed better than Vick in college so technically he's a "dual threat" Qb. dual means he can do two things run is one and pass is one. One plus one equals two or 1+1=2.

Last season, Newton gained more than 1,400 yards on the ground. Designed running plays were called for him 196 times and he averaged 6.3 yards per carry with 22 rushes of 15 yards or more. Newton also ended up running on 43 scrambles. In those situations, he averaged 9.2 yards per rush and had eight runs that went for 15 yards or more

He went through enough progressions on the field theres only so much time before you have throw or go. other QB's go through a few progressions and throw it out of bounds he turns it into a play for +yards.
