Shaun King says Gruden failed to develop him

Speaking as co-host of The King David Show on WQYK-AM 1010 today, King said Chucky is excellent at breaking down film and has been a successful head coach but the entire premise of the ESPN QB special is garbage.

“I won’t watch it. I disagree with the premise of the show. The premise is that Gruden is some kind of quarterbacks guru and that having him as a destination for a rookie QB is the ideal situation for a rookie and that just hasn’t proven to the case,” said King, who played two seasons under the Chucky regime in Tampa.

King’s point can’t be argued. Chucky has no success record with young quarterbacks, though that surely doesn’t take away from the entertaininment value of the special. Great Xs and Os and squirming draft hopefuls is a stellar mix.

Jon Gruden says "he's right"

We had the final question of the hour. With our Cam Newton and Jake Locker questions already taken, we lived up to Gruden’s negative blogger stereotype and asked about Shaun King’s recent criticism of Gruden.

“I did fail miserably in developing Shaun King and I’m sorry he’ll miss our show,” Gruden said.

We give Gruden credit for the funny response. He didn’t point out that he’s never coached a first-round pick at the position, saying he misses working with quarterbacks and that he could have done a better job developing them.

ESPN’s senior director of communications Bill Hofheimer seemed a little less amused than Gruden as the call wrapped.

“I wish we had a better question to end on,” Hofheimer said.

So does this hurt the credibility of Gruden's "QB Camp" program?

The article is about Gruden's QB Camp and his credibility at critiquing QBs since he never really developed one. Every thread needs a Newton reference, so there has to be one here.

Apparently :frown2:

I wasn't aware Newton had a part in the development of Shaun King :sosp:

But come on man, you know my original comment is true. This thread was started literally hours after a separate thread which had a report of Gruden suggesting that we take Cam.

Why did I have to mention Cam? Why not? He is the player who appears to be on the top of our board. He was featured on Gruden's Camp. As said above, there was a thread early today regarding Gruden's opinion on Cam.

The people who are against drafting Cam will run with this as proof that Gruden isn't credible and there is still no good reason to pick Cam.

The people for drafting Cam will say this article is dumb and we should listen to Gruden

anyways.

Just don't act like you didn't know what you were doing when you started this thread.

      I really fuging hate this era in so many ways.  I look at those Adin Ross and Neon kids, and I just wonder why tf are they famous?  Why would anyone be desperate enough to gain THAT audience that they’d risk money, career, disciplinary action to go up there and associate with those fuging dweebs?  And back in my day, racist peers got their ass beat.  And not endorsing or approving bully culture, but checks and balances and all…  had those two been bullied, or at the very least humbled, they wouldn’t be famous and glorified for being the fuging idiots they are now.  It seriously pisses me off… they both have done and said multiple, openly racist stuff and major media keeps pushing them, talking about them, and propping them up… and then dummies like Puka who don’t need the platform or exposure lend their celebrity to them.  fuging idiot… and even the other streamers, I don’t get - Speed, Kai…  I don’t understand making nobodies famous at all, but there is at least entertainment value to some degree there, and I could see how young, impressionable kids would find them something to aspire to (sadly), or view as “cool.”  But Ross and Neon?  They’re just shitty, shitty nerds with big ass mouths. I’ve went back recently and watched some classics (in two very different eras and categories 😂)  like Robocop and Idiocracy.  And what I find fascinating is how both movies illustrate how stupid society became by showing what the citizenry is entertained by.  In both, society became anti-intellectual and the citizenry were entertained by lowest denominator, primal-type absurdity - poo like, “Ouch! My Balls!”  Or on Robocop, a guy is a watching a show where they are smashing cakes on ladies’ breasts and then a guy says a line as the camera zooms in like, “I’d buy that for a dollar!” and the audience thinks it’s hilarious.  That’s where I feel like we are now.  Like who watches that clip with Puka and thinks any of that poo is funny or cool?  If I was Puka, I’d honestly be wondering why tf I’m hanging out with these beta ass, racist, cretin ass weirdos.

      Should definitely look to trade him in the offseason. Some team will fork over draft picks thinking they can turn his career around, especially considering what happened to Mayfield and Darnold after they left here. I think a lot of people will be surprised at how high of a pick he would fetch too. There's a dozen guys you could bring in to match (or exceed) Bryce's production for 1/10th of what his 5th year option is going to cost. Let some other dumb team pay that (and ship us draft picks for the privilege). Dump Dalton too while you're at it, start the QB room over from scratch.
