1 week out from draft, a fearless prediction

Carolina and Denver both trade out of their spots.

Will it be earth shattering trades? No, it will be less than in previous years due to the CBA, but both will trade out.

No way in hell Hurney stays at #1, not with Luck returning to school and its also in his DNA so to speak to trade. I can't see JR signing off on Newton either esp with no rookie cap in place and there is no one else in this draft worth guaranteeing 50 million or Quarterback money to.

Really? Can't see JR signing off on Cam. Even though he said he would defer to his Front Office to make the decision?

I mean... you must have gotten this impression after you finished having breakfast with him... cause only an insider would have the fearlessness to make such a bold prediction.

I can see carolina trading out and picking up a 2nd and maybe a 4th or 5th (like you said, no CBA)

Andrew Luck anyone?????

I am really beginning to think there will not be a season in 2011. It is clear that the owners WILL (not hoping but will) get something better than the previous CBA and it is clear that the players are not budge on the previous deal yet. It is clear that the owners have setup shop to do without for a year. I do think the players will finally break but if they don't then we will have no football in 2011. My only hope is the players will not be able to stay unified the longer it goes on

Also, it doesn't matter what the courts rule because it will be appealed which means the lockout will stay until a deal is done.

If Carolina trades out they will be giving a team a discount for the #1 overall.....which would be dumb. No team would want to trade up and give away picks in a draft that isn't top heavy....the value in this draft is 10+ in the 1st and later rounds.

If Carolina is a franchise dumb enough to make any moves with Andrew Luck as a factor..........then no in Panther land could ever make fun of how Al Davis has run his franchise in recent years.

I don't think Carolina moves out of number 1 with Andrew Luck in mind. I think they move out of number one because we've had DT issues for nearly 2-3 seasons, we've had a staggering need at WR staring us in the face, our QB issue needs to be addressed but we drafted 3 just last year and one guy isn't going to fix all of our issues. You trade down to help alleviate more of the issues we have. If you can move out of first and still get Dareus, Peterson, Green, or Netwon/Gabbert...you do it. It's moronic not doing it.

We drafted 2 last year.....and it is silly to put any emphasis on a 6th rounder.

Sure, we have lots of needs.......no position can have the impact on this team as drafting a good QB can. You could draft a GREAT DT.....a good QB would have a MUCH bigger impact.

Trading down isn't this easy option people paint it to be. No one wants to move up in this draft. It is a deep draft not a top heavy one.

There are a bunch of Solid DT's in FA. We drafted 3 WR last year. AE was drafted as a WR not a QB. There are no legit answers at QB in FA so that leaves us with the draft.

We will move out because there is no player that hurney or JR is willing to invest 50 million into and they are right. And you are right no QB in this draft is going to solve our issues.

I don't think they make a move based on Andrew Luck only but rather if it looks like we are going to have a season or not. The more this drags out, the more I feel like there will not be one. The GM's are very in tune with how the talks are going and if the owners think there will not be a season, then the draft strategy will change.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
