Just watched Gruden QB camp

I kinda suspect "long tail" play calling involving dozens of random terms is pretentious, stupid, confusing and likely unproductive. And, more to the point, probably not used all that much, if at all, in games. I think that crap is mostly spouted off to amaze fans.

I know what you mean. I think if you can communicate the play call and have everyone who needs to know on your team under stand it, without the other team understanding, then I don't care what method of play calling someone uses.

Exactly. In fact, I'd suggest it's all bullpoo. That crap Gruden rattles off, good Lord.

If that's really what's going on (and I don't believe it for one second), I think I could personally improve any NFL team in a matter of minutes by eliminating unecessarily complex communication.

Why does Gruden even get the QB Camp segment??

Lord forgive me for even suggesting it, but shouldn't that have gone to Trent Dilfer (I really hate that guy) but he is way more qualified to run that segment than Gruden is.

It's still fun to watch though!

All about the ratings. Gruden has a good TV personality imo. If it weren't for him and Jaws going back and forth on MNF, I don't think I would bother watching. Unless the Panthers were playing of course. :D

Jaws should run that segment.

Gruden tells it like it is and is entertaining, thus it's his show.

Have Jaws do the show with Gruden lol. That way when they disagree about something they can bicker back and forth like they do on MNF.

I'll admit that I was drunk last nite when I watched Gruden's segment with Cam. But, what I came away with was......

Gruden: Cam, call out a play like you would at Auburn.

Cam: Duh...............................

Somebody tell me I missed something or just misunderstood his answer.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
