then all this talk about Smitty cleaning out his locker this week is a non story.....

everything that we knew and though last week about Smitty hasn't changed.

You know how the internet works. 4 and 1/2 months after something happens it gets rehashed and re-written to bring up relevance to a current event.

Why would 89 want a QB thats going to take a minimum of 2 yrs to develope into a player?

Same really goes for D'lo and the rest of the vets. Their clocks are ticking, you think they have time to chill and wait for Cam to learn how to play in the NFL? (You Cam hardliners do acknowledge that he needs 2 years right?)

I always assumed when players mentioned QB this offseason, they were pushing for a veteran to come in. Guess I see it differently.

If by two years you mean sit this year and start the next then yeah. If you mean sitting 2 years or more before he can play then I would definitely disagree.

I'd let him sit for a year then get spot action in the second. No way he starts Year 2.

No I mean: sit one year, learn on the field one year and then be ready in his 3rd year.

Then I would disagree. Of course all this is predicated on needing him to come in year 1 and play right away. If either Clausen or Moore came in and played great, Smitty would be happy, Newton could sit like Rodgers did and this discussion is moot.

I think they will have a package for him this year and he may play a game or two if we are out of the playoffs toward the end of the season. By year 2, I think he will be capable of starting but hope he doesn't. By year 3 his athleticism and potential will make him the starter no matter who we have.

I'm guessing Razey means that it won't be until year 3 that Newton is making a positive impact and fully entrenched as a starting quarterback with confidence of the system here, and the NFL. I'm okay with Cam as the selection (though I'd rather have Dareus), but his worth is not year 1 or year 2. I am confident that he has the will and desire to learn and become a student of the game like Big Ben or Steve McNair, whereas a player like Vince Young or Akili Smith did not. Either way, IMO, Smitty will not be here when Newton is the man under center moving forward....... if he is indeed our pick.

Im confused then. . are you saying that Smitty is willing to wait for Cam's 3rd year?

I dont know what youre trying to say here.

Its something you are going to have to deal with. Im not saying we have to get a rookie quarterback because we dont. There is always that vet option but they are only going to be here a year or so. What is going to have to happen is either one or the other smitty is going to have to go with the flow of the team or he is going to get traded it's as simple as that. The choice is really up to him because if he really wants out I believe the panthers will let him go. Just like they did with peppers when he became a free agent they offer him a deal but he didnt want it. The same goes for jenkins he waned out and they traded him.

that is too long in today's NFL.

I agree

Well, ya, but thats what Im saying. . ready to make an impact by year 3. I dont think Smith wants to wait that long so therefor I dont think he wants us to draft Cam.

If the Panthers draft Cam, it is clear they do not agree with your 3 year time frame.

I see him getting snaps early this year, and becoming the starter sometime after mid-season.

Who knows what Smith would think of that scenario?

sorry if I wasnt clear about this, BJ, but Im not making statements based on what I think should happen or what I want to happen. Im simply saying that, the vets who play for the Panthers, likely dont want Newton since it will take him awhile to mature as a player. Now Lafell and Gettis I could see wanting Newton, but not the vets.

    • I'd rather get a vet to fill XL's spot for a chain mover and give Jimmy Horn more reps since he's basically our Ted Ginn speed guy. T-Mac and Coker are locked in as the top 2. They honestly fuged up giving XL the start over Moore in the playoff game
    • I have been looking for a dropped pass list and all that comes up is QBs. And team stats. When I do receivers I get the passing stats for a handful that threw passes this year.    I wanted to be accurate but anyhow I was looking because thought I remembered reading where T Mac had more drops than XL this year.  One of you many smarter than me people here,I would appreciate it if you know how to pull that up, please do. Thank you.    And yeah I know that isn’t all there is to it I just thought it was interesting.  Of course what the hell is a drop lol.
    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
