Taken a Defensive Player helps the Offense How?

Rayzor, I think that the reason why people are dropping Fairley is that hes lazy, has a bad history, was a 1 year wonder and used speed to beat bad technique, not his hands.

Dareus is a better selection.

flat out he's more dominant than any Dlinemen in this draft. dareus is a safer pick, but fairley can do more damage to offenses.

criticisms of him are overrated and speculative, imo. probably the highest risk/reward player in the draft (esp. on the defensive side of the ball), but

if you are a bottom team, you have to be willing to take chances like that to get out.

suh is legitimately the only DT who was worth a top 3 pick in many years. fairley is the only one who comes close to having his level of dominance. dareus doesn't come near it.

again, imo.

What really hurt our offense wasnt the offensive line it was the ability to run the ball and the ability to pass the ball. Teams blitz the living day lights out of us. Because they knew Clausen couldnt throw it. And they knew our only chance to score was to run the ball but that want going to happen because they had an eight man, nine man box.

This is how newton or Green can fit in. With green he can help the passing game out a ton smitty want catch double coverage that much and teams will have to blitz at will. Because Clausen might get lucky and throw it up at Smitty or green would get it .Thats if Smitty stays. But with Newton it could workout well how because he can keep the defense honest at the most you really cant blitz because he can run. It will open up the run game with stewart and williams and having a pass catching TE will be the most helpful of all because he can help newton out a lot not just newton but any QB.

Cam does not have the speed and elusiveness that Vick had. He WILL NOT be able to run in the NFL the way he did in college.

If they could, QB's like Akili Smith, Vince Young, etc would be unstoppable.

Ummmmmm..... yes, the main problem was our OL. They sucked and couldn't pass protect or run block worth a poo. That chain reaction effects everything.

If you can't control the line of scrimmage you're screwed!

It doesn't make any sense what you said. "What really hurt our offense wasnt the offensive line it was the ability to run the ball and the ability to pass the ball."

The OL controls the ability to run the ball, they have to do all the blocking and open up holes for the RBs. And again, they couldn't pass protect worth a poo so Clausen rarely had time to wait for receivers to get open and throw the ball.

How is Dareus going to put points up on the board he isnt going to get a sack every play hell he only had 4 sacks last year and 7 or 8 his whole college career. Drafting a playmaker like newton or green gives us a better chance to win games. If you arent sold on either one of these guys thats when you go defense. Our defense was not the problem why we went 2-14 the offense was.

BJ not when hes not on the field or not able to call plays, or throwing INT's for TD's for the other team.

Impact: Which player at #1 makes a direct impact and helps us win games no matter what phase of the game that is.

Your argument means we should have drafted Joey Harrington over JP.

Speed is not everything. His vision was a good reason why he was so succesful in running. He will break some runs now if you dont think so you are dead wrong. His size and his weight is a good attribute. He is not Michael Vick fast but he is fast but what makes him good is his vision it makes up from the lack of home run speed.

I can see him being like Rothlisberger, only a little more so. Ben is very effective outside the pocket. Cam has similar size, but better quickness.

Not really because we wasnt going to take him anyway because the Lions had the first pick.

When you at number one you take and impact player that helps the weakest side of the ball. Weather its offense of defense. Most cases its probably offense. If you pass up on a potential franchise QB you could set your team back just if you take one and they dont workout. one scenario Dolphins taking Jake long over matt ryan. The wildcat doesnt work anymore.

If they had Ryan they would probable have a good team.

You cant blame the offensive line trying to block 8 guys. Why because they knew we cant pass if we could we wouldnt be 32 in the league in passing offense. Not been able to pass made it harder to run. You cant fool anybody especially when they know you cant do something.

True, but now the Dolphins have the most dominate LT in the NFL. IF they would have drafted QB Matt Ryan instead you just don't know how he would have turned out. He would have gotten the poo kicked out of him every sunday from DE's.

If you can't protect the QB, they can't do their job well.

The Texans had the first pick and they selected David Carr, we needed a QB at the time too, but we dont draft QB round 1, and Harrington had put up great numbers at Oregon and was a Winner... we went with Peppers who has way more pass rushing skills than Dareus, which is not the argument Im trying to make, Im just saying, with our lack of DT skill and depth, Dareus does what Peppers did for us, instantly makes us better along the line, making our LB's better, making our Secondary Better, making our Defense better, so we can hopefully make more plays and help our offense into some short fields. :)

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
