Yas: Five post-lockout NFC South predictions

Even if we traded him away for a ham sammich, who is going to pay Smith 16 million over the next 2 years to play? especially if what was said about being a locker room issue is true.

Two points to consider: Terrell Owens and Randy Moss.

There's always a coach out there who thinks he can get someone under control.

:nonod: You must have missed his interview on NFLN where he basically put it out there that he wanted to be more in the slot and not a number 1 wideout anymore but he's a me me me guy?

With what he had throwing last year I would want to go to slot too honestly.

He is not so much me - me like a TO but he does show his ass when things don't go his way and has a well-documented temper issue.

I think any one time when he was thrown a smoke route for the fifth time in a game and was stopped for a loss and complained about the play call walking off the field could be Yas's translation of "walking all over".

Based on Schefter's M&M interview...if we're operating on the OLD CBA rules...we might not even see Cam Newton in camp if he doesn't sign.

Remember...all the comparisons to Jamarcus Russell...let's see if he clears the first hurdle. Just hope we aren't guaranteeing out crazy money.

I just can't fault him for being upset the past few years though shows he doesn't want to be average I feel everyone should have that quality. I am willing to bet most current Panthers feel the same way he does. And his temper while a problem (the assaults) we have overlooked as a front office imo because it's what makes a 5"9 QB be able to play like he's Andre Johnson's size.

Like I said of before of course a player like Smith is going to feel some kind of way when we are not winning his desire is to be a Hall of Famer c'mon now...

Slot = Less one on one coverages and more zone = more chances for him to be wide open for short passes and gain extra yards = Wes Welker = stats = money.

Been following Steve Smith way too long not to see this.

    • I think you have to factor in that we're still not an attractive proposition for Head Coaches. You're not getting the cream of the crop if you fire Canales a year after winning the NFC South, especially considering the situation he walked into.
    • Yeah, I was about to say I hope he's doing okay health-wise because he's not looking good in that pic.
    • Honestly, I dont  think he should be on the hot seat yet. A bad start to next year, then yes. Despite our mistakes on play calling this past season, we played better than anticipated overall. Bryce showed improvement and maturity (although still not nowhere close to our expectations). Better record and 2-15 to 5-12 to 8-9. Despite what we feel the stats dont lie we are improving by 3 wins a year. Could 11-6 be our expectation. That's a high bar but at the rate we are going, thats what its looking like. We all want to see a 5-12 to a 13-4 record but we are methodically moving up. Success doesnt happen overnight (well in most cases).  IMO we are struggling mostly on the defensive end. LB and edge are our biggest weakness. I see Bryce making improvements (even though I was a Bryce hater) next year. Biggest concern is LT on offense. How to fix this? We need a big name edge or to trade up and get a big name edge or LB and pick up one in FA and draft one. Also if in the 3rd we can pick up a TE. Dont know if Sanders is the answer or Tremble (even though I love Trembles blocking and power after the catch). If these two can get their footwork together they would be great. Maybe all they need is a better TE coach. And if Brooks can stay healthy and be the back we thought he could be, man that would be great
