Draft Grades rounds 1-3

I am giving us a B I like what we did point blank because they drafted for need with players if I am not mistaken all came in for workouts we did our homework. That grade could fall or increase we'll just have to wait and see. Obviously I am high on Cam and I trust our defensive minds to coach up the DT's we took along with our young but skilled defense as whole.

Based on the way the draft fell, we could have had:

1. Dareus

2. Mallett

3. Fua

If Rivera is expected to mold Cam into a mature man, it's possible he could whip Mallett into shape as well. I don't have a preference over what we have vs this option. I'm excited and hopeful about Cam, but would be about Dareus as well. I would have stayed clear of Mallett personally, but I'm not as bad ass as Rivera.

zod+happy fiz+pissing match=epic.

And I know we want more out of Newton than just a Vince Young, but when people say I hope he isn't a bust like JaMarcus or Vince it kind of bugs me because doesn't VY have a winning record as a starter? That's not a true bust like the trainwreck that is JR. Maybe I'm wrong but I think he does.

It's impossible to know how the players will turn out just yet, so I grade us a B based on filling two big holes and having some giant kajonnies. We didn't do anything stupid, but we didn't pull off some masterpiece either. We ended up with some great potential and solid players. That's what the draft is all about, after all. Hopefull, we get some solid depth today and go home happy.

1. A DT who may be good but prolly will be an above average DT.

2. Coke Head with no mobility.

3. Still reach for a DT who would prolly be there in the mid 4th or 5th.

how is this better?

drafting a QB that doesn't yet have an NFL QB skillset, and isn't an accurate passer #1 overall means you can't grade the Panthers anything higher than a C.

If Newton works out, up to him, then it could become an A down road or an F if he Bust.

how is not having a second rounder indicative of any sort of failure for THIS year's draft?

don't be assholes, it's blatantly an A. we drafted what could very easily be our franchise QB, and completely plugged our biggest (and arguably only) real weakness on defense. grabbed a highly-rated cornerback and a WR who people are already comparing to smitty physically.

i swear the only way some of you would've given an A is if we'd gotten Dareus, Green, Peterson and Jones.

Tell me about it, unrealistic expectations all over the place.

I guess that next year the Falcons get an automatic F grade in their draft. lol

    • Im not angry. Im disappointed. I want to win. Anyone who has watched Bryce play the last 3 years and thinks that this team has in any way seriously addressed the glaring deficiencies in our QB room is deluding themselves. It's been explained ad nauseum how our FO has protected Bryce from feeling even slightly challenged or pressured. A GM without an interfering owner would have brought in another QB to at least give the team a better chance at winning. We just gave an extension to a QB that only got 3k yards on the last play of his 16th game of the year. Indy admitted AR wasn't good enough by bringing in Jones to compete for the starting role. Tennessee drafted Ward to replace Levis. Stroud hasn't repeated his 1st year and Mills' performance was decent when he filled in after Stroud's injury and some were calling for him to remain starter. His future there is still in question even with a 5th year. We should have done the same, especially given that Bryce was benched.  Bringing in Grier is just another glaring billboard pronouncing the obvious. Dave Tepper still has his hands in the daily operations of this team. He controls the QB room because Bryce was his pick. Until Tepper finally admits that Bryce has barely lived up to the standards of a NFL Qb, we're going to spend our days reminiscing of when we were mediocre and finished 9-7.  It's just discouraging. We'll address every position on the field except the one with a glaringly obvious shortcoming. I had hoped Tepper really had backed off. Bryce's 5th year, Dalton's 2 year contract then trade, Kenny Pickett, Will Grier, Jack Plummer, and  Hendon Hooker say otherwise. It already feels like it's going to be a hard year of Panthers football to watch.
