Hogan, McClain, and the Defense

I don't feel comfortable with McClain starting, he better show some skill. I know he can play special teams but a lot of guys can.

You do realize as a "DT" you will not see McClain on Special Teams...You must be confused in reference to who you're referring too, only guys we drafted who may be ST's are Wilson (LB), Pilares (doubtful-seems to be a valuable asset on offense, may be used as a returner though), Hogan (still recovering from ACL Surgery, so not likely).

Aside from those we drafted QB, DTx2, and OLx2 which obviously will not be on the ST squads.

i doubt we select anybody in the supplemental draft since we would have to give up a pick in next years draft

I don't mind us bidding a 3rd for a talent like Janoris(sp) Jenkins seeing as how we still need depth/talent @ DB, but no higher. He could potentially be a better "value" than signing a pricey free agent.

Thats true because thats the rules. But i really think he is worth a third at least, we have the highest draft pick position so i think that means that a team would have to give up at least a 2nd to take him over us. So i dont really see any other teams doing that, he was a top 15 pick before he decided to go back from what i read. I just thought it might be a good situation for us to take a look at. That is as long as we know that he is goin in a better direction far as the off the field issues.

My bad, I read the part about Brandon Hogan, so I assumed he was talking about Robert McClain until I went back and read it clearly.

I agree, dont really see another team bidding higher. I could be wrong tho, but man i hope they at least take a look into it. Lol

we probably couldn't get by with anything less than a 1st round pick cause very few players are eligible for the supplemental draft. so giving up next years one for a troubled player doesn't make sense . just because we took a couple players with baggage, doesn't mean we will make a habit of it

I'm fine with patching up the corner position for this year and using our 1st next year on it, assuming Hogan doesn't develop into a starter.

If we sign Coefield and one of the 3rd round DT's ends up being a solid starter I think we'll be solid for this year, then add a top flight CB prospect next year in the 1st. Dre Kirkpatrick maybe.

I also think Rivera will use Everette Brown a lot more creatively than Fox did. He can be a force as a pass rushing specialist if he's moved around between DE & OLB and allowed to do what he does best.

I see a lot of potential and youth on that D-line. I haven't given up on Brown and of course Hardy looks good. At DT, I really think a lot of you guys are underestimating Fua. I was really impressed at his tape.

I brought up Janoris Jenkins in a thread the other day when it was announced he'd declare for the supplemental draft. Since our picks take top priority in the supplemental draft (I'm pretty sure) we could get him easily with next year's 2nd (which as we know, likely won't be #33 again) for a guy that was graded to go in the 1st this year if he had declared. With the drafting of Hogan, another CB with issues, I'm seeing this as more of a possibility. If they'd rather play it more safely they could bid a 3rd and if some team bids a 2nd, oh well. If another team doesn't bid a 2nd then we just got a 1st round CB for a future 3rd. Good value.

We don't necessarily have the first priority in the supplemental draft. It goes on a lottery system for three different groups. Teams with 6 wins or less in the first group, teams that had more than 6 wins but did not make the playoffs in the second, and playoff teams in the third. There is a weighted lottery for each group with the team with the worst record getting the weighted advantage followed by the 2nd worst and so on. This is combined to form the order for the supplemental draft.

Here is a link if that explains it pretty well if i didn't.

The other problem is there may not even be a supplemental draft if the lockout continues.
