Gus Johnson could be calling some of our games next season

if we have a season (i fuging hate having to say that)...

Raissman now reports that CBS opted not to match the offer from FOX, which means that Johnson is indeed out at CBS. And that he’ll now be working for FOX.

For NFL fans, the move means only that Johnson will primarily be working NFC games, not AFC games, on Sundays during football season. The next time, of course, there actually is a football season.

Newton + Gus could make for a very exciting broadcast. Anyone but Torry Holt again.

I am sure many NFC games will have precedent over our beloved Panthers for the services of Gus Johnson, Fox didn't just outbid CBS to throw him to regional games. That being said, it would be a nice change of pace to have some good announcing during our 16 game stint of 1:00 games.

    • He has attempted 8 shootout goals in his NHL career and made 1. He is among our worst SO guys on the entire roster in terms of career stats.
    • Against Miami, the Panthers were behind by 17 in the 2nd quarter facing a 4th - 5. Young completed a 21 yard pass and they went on to score 7 on that drive. Then in the 4th, down by 4, they faced a 4th - 5 and again, he completed a 17 yard pass and they went onto score a TD for the win. He also accounted for 2 of the 3 TD's.  As I said, he got them in that mess and no doubt, Rico gets credit as well, but missing on either of those 4th down conversions hands the ball over and results in 1 or 2 less TD's giving them a loss. As you said though, that's just a small quibble. The real question is how does the FO see it?  I am guessing they see it as something to build on. I think most peope here see it as a total loss and fully expect the FO to see it that way as well. Time will tell.
    • Kochetkov is just too streaky. TBD if Freddie is doing that too. Freddie is the more reliable goalie over his career. The Bussi kid looks like he could be a solid #2 eventually.  Just need to figure out the #1 guy. Same as almost every year. It's not talent, it's consistency and being able to step up in the playoffs.
