With No Football in 2011..Who's 1st in 2012

To answer the OP ... This goes one of three ways.

1) We draft Luck and let him and Cam battle it out best QB wins. Nothing wrong with this option in my mind. 3 or 4 years down they will still have trade value. Especially in a Brees Rivers type situation.

2) We draft a DL/DE pass rushing run stopping monster. I mean someone like the next Peppers, Bruce Smith, etc...

3) We trade the pick and get as much as we can. I do not see this happening to our advantage since I think Hurney is a complete moron. I honestly only hope they do this if they get the bank for this pick. With what Atlanta did for thier pick I would say we should get at least that with maybe another 2nd rounder in there.

Guys...just remember that in order to trade a pick, the seller must have a buyer.

Let's say the reverse occured where we have just drafted Luck and Cam Newton has his 2010 year in 2011...and we have the number 1 again. Are we having this discussion about picking him first overall? I don't know.

I get the feeling that there are alot of Panther fans who are going to for, the rest of our Natural lives... until Jesus himself returns to earth... will think that Andrew Luck is the best thing that never happened to our franchise.

I can imagine that there are some who will... every time Cam makes a mistake.. they're going to be saying... "See... Andrew Luck would never have done that."

Have you ever seen a dumb girl who has a crush on a guy that isnt even thinking about her ... and she comes up with all these types of fantasies and crazy scenarios about how they're gonna be together?

I've seen it too... everyday in this forum

If there is no season in 2011, then I think we would draft Luck, and attempt to trade Cam's rights since he would not be under contract either. While the FO like's the potential in Cam, Luck is more of a sure thing (assuming he has another year like last season).

He could have a big drop off without Harbaugh there. It also could be debated that Barkley is better. Can't wait to see how this plays out tbh. If Luck fails, or looks horrible next year it's going to be a lot of backtracking.

Yeah we wanted Luck. He turned it down so we went with Cam. But as far as I'm concerned, as great as a prospect as Luck is, Cam plus multiple firsts plus multiple seconds is greater than Luck. Cam has grown on me and I'd rather have him and a treasure trove of draft picks than pick Luck and have them battle it out. Let the bidding war start, and the bidding starts at two firsts and two seconds and goes up from there.

For all the Luck fans out there, just drop it. We all wanted him, but he didn't come out. But we made an investment in Cam instead and we are not going to move on from him just because another prospect is there. They wouldn't have selected Cam if they didn't believe he was going to be a franchise QB.

Everyone will do themselves, and the huddle, a favor if you just drop it with the Andrew Luck love fest.

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
