Replacement for Basanez/Competition with Moore?

We don’t need a fourth quarterback to compete with Moore, we need someone to compete with Delhomme. The jury is still out as to whether Moore or McCown can be effective starters in the league. I’m willing to give either a shot, but right now I don’t see either one being a better option as a starter than Delhomme.

I really think this is the year we draft a quarterback, perhaps in the second round. They may not see the field much next year, but it’s time to start thinking about grooming someone to replace Jake, and perhaps even compete for the job (which is probably a long shot for a rookie quarterback under John Fox).

As I mentioned before, getting a QB in the draft will all depend on what they do with Peppers. If we can somehow come away with at least a 1st round pick + say, a 3rd rounder then I think they can be safe enough to use a later pick on a QB. However, if we do not trade Peppers this year, I believe that we probably won't invest in a QB. If we did, it will most likely be a cheap free agent pick up.

One possibility that no one really has mention is the possibility of Kyle Boller coming here. I know a lot of people are not really high on him and will be much comparable to Carr but if my memory serves me correctly, Fox and Hurney, at one point back in 06, were looking at trading for Boller.

Think you are right on Peppers and picks. We really are in good shape as far as the draft (not needing much). If we get some extra picks I could see them using one to pick a QB. I dont think they will get one in F/A though as we have two quality QB's behind Jake I think we will live and die by those three and the 4th will be either stashed on the practice squad or play another position (white) while learning to be a qb.

4th QB? Did Gruden get hired on the Panthers our sumpin'? You must mean for the practice squad.

lol, that's what I'm saying... starting threads about a 4th QB?

Who cares who the 4th is.... He'll never see playing time anyhow. Even if it comes down to a 4th QB, chances are someone will be brought in, i.e. Testaverde and 2007...

I am so sorry that I didn't make a repetitive thread about where Peppers was going and who will be a replacement for him

I am so sorry that I didn't make a repetitive thread about how Jake Delhomme sucks and we need a new starter at QB

and I am so sorry that I didn't make a repetitive thread about where Ken Lucas will be cut or traded.

Maybe, just maybe, instead of creating multiple threads on the same topic that we could, actually talk about something else for a change.

In regards to this, we have always had 4 QBs at the start of summer school and training camp and well into Pre-season. I am just saying that maybe we could always bring another QB in to compete with Moore for the third spot.

You're exactly right. I really do appreciate this thread for that. I guess with all the daily panic threads, it's easy to read this as another.

However, for discussion, last year Lester Ricard had a few praises. I couldn't see anyone with drastically more skill to come in. It will be someone similar of a Basanez or Ricard skill type..

Every year folks on here and talking heads constantly talk about us drafting a quarterback.

Fox isn't going to do it. The one guy he drafted, Lefors. didn't last 2 years. He hasn't done it since and has made it clear that he doesn't think a rookie quarterback is worth the money to develop. He would much rather get a guy who is a free agent and has been around the league. It is much more likely that we will pick up a guy like Chris Simms or another free agent than we will draft a quarterback.

I expect that all you guys unhappy with Jake hoping we are going to draft a QB in the first day will be disappointed again. Fox likes Jake, McCown, and Moore.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't even pick up one in free agency. I for one would be fine with picking up one or two guys but it is far from a foregone conclusion that we will.

    • They said there wasn't clear evidence to warrant the overturn.  How would it have made a difference at that point in the game?   https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/nfl-privately-admitted-to-erroneous-reversal-of-catch-by-panthers
    • Me, I'm sick of WWE channel hopping their PLEs and shows. Netflix now with Raw. USA still has Smackdown but you can't get it with Roku if you don't also have cable. Then they went from all the PLEs on Peacock to ESPN+ which required upgrading your Disney+ package. Then they frikkin' move Saturday Night Main Event with John Cena's retirement match back over to frikkin' Peacock, which we'd just cancelled two months prior because no PLEs there anymore. And there are fewer, but longer matches and its the same danged stories again and again. Rematch after rematch after rematch between PLEs. Fewer matches, fewer wrestlers, more promos (of lesser quality) and less action.  It just seems like it's all fillers and re-runs. I'm tired of Cody Rhodes. I'm tired of Jey Uso. I'm tired of the two Brons. Shuffle the deck a bit guys, this game's getting stale.
    • Chuba was 3 yards behind the 3 gap. He was lined up weak offset I. It was a 33 dive. Chuba needed to power through off of Ekwonu's block and slip off into the 5 gap where the Tremble had the lane sealed and Rick pulled the LB out of the 5 gap. Here's a visual if you need proof. Chuba did a jump cut laterally to the 2 gap on the right side with unblocked defenders crashing down and went airborne.   This is a 33 dive that should have been slipped off the block into the 5 gap. Chuba lacked vision, but you can see Rico and Bryce staring at the intended running lane sealed off by Tremble and Ekwonu. He should have read Ekwonu's block. The blocking and misdirection is NOT set up for the right side. The play worked. Chuba failed to execute on this play. Trust who you want to, but I wouldn't suggest you argue with the video. Anyone telling you this was drawn up to go right with the blocking did not analyze it. They are correct it should have been a called dive, and it was a called dive.  This was a weak offset I bringing Tremble in motion from the right to the left.
