The Top 50 NFL Running Backs of 2011

Recommended Posts

I wrote an article detailing Top 50 NFL Running Backs over at the all-haled Bleacher Report.

Constructive criticism is welcomed and I'll do my best to avoid an argument this time DavethePanther. :D

49. Mike Goodson, Carolina Panthers

Goodson is another fourth round pick who has exceeded expectations thus far.

In his second year in the league, he has already put up good numbers in one of the most crowded backfields in the NFL. While Panthers star Deangelo Williams battled injury the entire season, Goodson shined as the compliment back to Jonathan Stewart.

He is very elusive and displays an excellent burst through the hole. He also adds great value as a receiver. However, he needs to solve his fumbling issues before the Panthers increase his workload.

I'll leave the suspense for you to find Stewart and Williams.

Tough to put both Stew and DWill in the top 10, and I tend to agree with their placements. Most of the guys ahead are featured backs and only share a fraction of the wealth. Reading this just makes me want to sign DeAngelo, keep Stew running hard, and get Goodson incorporated more into the passing/return game.

These three studs are imperative to Newton's success. With Double Trouble running as they did in 2008 behind a healthy offensive line, Newton will be able to keep defenses off-balance. It feels damn good to have a threat at the QB position once again.

Here's to a bright future Panther fans, just have a little patience.:cheers2:

Re-signing D-will is a tough decision, for one he's getting older and with age comes injuries. We don't want to sign him and he's always on IR. On the other hand you have a very talented young back who could definitely take Williams place if not resigned. But what happens of J-stew goes down? I can't see Goodson who has fumbling problems as our primary back.

    • This is what I mean. I am not some huge BY fan. I honestly don't look at QBs the way a lot of you guys do. Right or wrong, I've always looked at them as just another cog in the machine. Didn't want BY or even a trade up for a QB in 2023. We saw in the Super Bowl how important the rest of the team is on any given Sunday. Now... so PFF, who has no reason to prop up BY, says he's first in 2 stat lines and Panthers "fans" are arguing why it's either wrong or a made up stat just to make BY look good. Even though they have multiple stat lines where he's literally last in. Like 32nd in the NFL. Some he's even lower than 32. Take a step back. Try to objectively self analyze. This is just not sensible.  Same thing I see with other teams' fans and their QBs though. We analyze every single throw on every single play. For every other QB, most here are only using highlights to judge. Makes a difference. We saw Stafford miss throws when they played Carolina - both games. We saw Love throw crap up when they played Carolina. We saw Dak miss throws when they played Carolina - and Pickens was putting on a SHOW. We saw Josh Allen win a game with 163 yards passing against Carolina, but if BY does it he's crap and can't pass for 200 yards. Gents... come on.
    • None of us think we're contenders this season but no reason we're doomed to 5 or 6 wins either. Dan has to have another 2025- like draft class and at least 2 key free agent signings. We're not Seattle but they don't win without 5 starters from their last 2 draft classes and Darnold and Lawrence in free agency.  Alas,  we'll have to wait one more season for a QB upgrade.
