I believe his value is highly over-hyped on this board because he played a South Carolina.

So the other 31 teams that arn't located in the carolina over-hype him why ? You cant play the college card on the west coast where people want him just as bad , he is legit , I don't know why you are so against him just because of the SC thing , but the guy came out of college as a sophomore , hasn't had any problems legally , has been a worker on and off the field ,classroom etc. What more can you possibly want ?

True statement... His coverage skills were suspect as hell, but that dude layed the wood!!! Plus he still keeps up with this team and is constantly talking good bout our D.

No doubt we've upgraded. Depth wouldn't hurt though ;-)

he certainly did lay the wood.. (no pun intended)

guy has been nothing but a bitch since he's left. forget about him.

I find that inaccurate considering he's always repped Panther fans on FB.. that shirt is hardly something I'ma feel hurt about. Truth is, he spoke up and they booted him for a guy who never started and may not even make the roster.

he's kept in touch with Panther fans on a more personal level than most athletes.

Yes that is totally what will happen.

I remember where steve was considered a bust pretty much his entire career up to that point as well....

If Rice is reasonably cheap I wouldn't have a huge issue with it.

If he wants real $$$ he can GFTO

2003 CAR 16 G 11 S 88 CTH 1,110 YDS 12.6 AVG 67T 7 TD's

2002 Led the Panthers with 872 receiving yards and ranked second with 54 catches

2001 PRO Bowl Returner ?

Define Bust for me please , because i completely don't know how to physically bust in the NFL anymore?

I feel that DeAngelo had A LOT to do with him keepin up with us (the fans)

They were pretty tight.

I actually think he could be very successful for us in the Nickel Packages.

(not that I know anything about the game if football) <---- JOKE OBVIOUSLY!

I feel no need to quote Kurb... If you think Captain is a bust... Man, I got nothin for ya. The dude is a true pro. Undersized and str8 Vicious! If half the dudes on the team had his heart we'd be unstoppable! Captain is the Steve Smith of our D.

Steve was NEVER a bust. He wasn't drafted high enough to even remotely earn that title! Obviously he was a STEAL! Sometimes I question people's knowledge of the game... Let Alone the knowledge of our own players.

Exactly.

What were Rice's numbers up until the arrival of Farve ?

30 rec 400 yrds 4 TDs

15 rec 150 yrds 4 TDs

83 rec 1300 8 tds

then he gets hurt and needs a hip replacement or some poo.

That's not a lot of history to spend a lot of cash on.

A Steve Breston typle player, that has had much more consistent mid level production would be more useful to us.

I understand the concern, but like I said he's fully recovered and in better shape than before. I'd definitely be fine with Holmes, Edwards, or Breaston but I look at Sidney's height & 2009 season as major positives. Whether it was due to Favre or not, he still showed mad skill. I mean the QB isn't the guy jumping up to grab those balls. It takes talent on both ends to be effective and Rice has that along with these other free agents. I just think we could greatly benefit from having a tall fast WR as Gettis comes into his own.

Smitty - Major FA Signing - Gettis - LaFell - Pilares

That could be a stellar lineup

I don't hate the guy here, he just has some serious concerns, and the SC homerism is strong in these parts.

Much like ECU/AppSt/UNC/NCState (if they had anyone other the Rivers in the NFL worth a damn)

I'm pretty much indifferent to South Carolina being an ex-Auburn Tiger & current Hokie but for some reason I end up following and liking a lot of ex-USC players in the NFL. The only one I remember not really liking here was Terry Cousin. Wharton, Cap'n, & Norwood are legit.

I think the root of the FA WR talk is whether we're gonna go for a certain type (speedster, slot, possession, etc.) versus the best talent available. I see the tall leaping guy with speed as the ideal type...and if Gettis continues to develop into a good wideout, we could be stacked.

*but of course it probably makes more sense to simply go after the best talent available.

He's had one legit QB, for one year, throwing him the ball since HS. GTFO. His hip is fine and the BS about it being arthritic are false.

Go eat a donut.
