Realistically, what would be a draft you're happy with?

9: Marcus Morris

A few weeks ago I was completely against taking Morris here, but the more highlights I watch the more I come to like him. He seems good at getting offensive rebounds and isn't afraid to go back up with it. I've also seen him operating from the top of the key some and he has a smooth jumper. He could be a nice, versatile player for us.

19: Marshon Brooks or Shelvin Mack

Brooks if he's there, but with how he has been performing as of late I think it's 50/50. We need an energetic scorer coming off the bench to provide a nice backup behind Hendo.

I wouldn't mind a Euro center either or Tristan Thompson at 9. Obviously if Kawhi Leonard is there we grab him but that is highly unlikely. I like Morris's versatility a lot, I didn't know he played like that honestly.

My incredible interest in this draft has me looking up mock drafts on a daily basis. It has become evident to me that beyond the first two picks. Nobody has a clue what is going to happen.

Honestly I would be happy with a plethora of people.

At 9 I would say my top 3 are as follows

1. Kemba Walker (Yes there are mocks out there that say he could fall to us although unlikely)

2. Alec Burks

3. Jordan Hamilton

I honestly don't see whats so great about Marcus Morris and I would be OK with us picking him but I would feel like we missed an opportunity to have something better.

At 19 it goes

1. Bismack Biyombo

2. Marshon Brooks

3. Chris Singleton

4. Nikola Vucevic

Vucevic has been shooting up boards and I personally think he would be a very nice center for us.

There one player that I would just be infuriated with us selecting is Jimmer Fredette. I think he is going to be an absolute scrub in the NBA, feel free to hate.

Rick Bonnell was on Busting Loose with Frank and Moose (WFNZ) yesterday and said the cats really like Singleton (F-FSU), Brooks (G-Prov), and Vucevic (C-USC)..fwiw..Singleton paried with Hendo would make one of the best defensive shooting guard/small forward combo's in the league...

Agreed. Too bad the Bobs would lose most games 70-65 with a lineup featuring Hendo and Singleton. If Boris loses his job to Tyrus and Kwame is still the starter at C, yikes! That team couldn't score!

I agree, but hopefully hendo can build his offensive rep into a viable second option. Marshon brooks makes more sense to me though

Whatever nets us a scorer and bigman. SF and C prefered....

9.1 Kawhi Leonard SF * will probably be off the board

9.2 Chris Singleton SF * im high on him

9.3 Marcus Morris PF * solid ready to contribute right away

9.4 Jordan Hamilton SF * possibly the best scorer in the draft

9.5 Tristan Thompson PF * reminds me of Tyrus Thomas

19.1 Bismack Biyombo PF/C * a steal if he is still here

19.2 Marshon Brooks SG * one of the best scorers in draft

19.3 Kenneth Faried PF/C * hustle, simply put

19.4 Klay Thompson SG * the 3 pt shooter Silas wants

19.5 Nikola Vucevic PF/C * potential, simply put

I'm really warming up to the idea of Chris Singleton at number 9. Singleton is tabbed as the best defensive player in the draft and from what I've read he has a decent offensive game, just had trouble showcasing it in the slow FSU offense. Either way, he could work on his offensive game similar to Hendo.

At 19 I would be happy with Marshon Brooks or Nikola Vucevic. Brooks could be the dynamic scorer we need to build around or Vucevic could be the solid (probably not a superstar but a solid rebounder and scorer) to hold down the C position. If we could only get both somehow...

    • If the losses were him not stepping up in key situations then it'd be a disappointment.
    • I'm well versed in the minutiea of the Canes radio broadcast system... lol I've been back in WNC for about 15 years now. And, until very recently, we would only get Predators games on the RSNs out here. So, radio was the only option for me to keep up with the team. These were the dark years, too. Maybe, once a year, you'd get to see us get smashed on national TV by some original 6 powerhouse. If you were really lucky, Jeff Skinner would bless you with one of his absolutely stunning pirouette passes to nowhere, before Wardo toppled over off his head, giving up a goal on his 70th shot faced that night for an inspiring 1-0 loss. But, that story sounds a whole lot cooler when Chuck Kaiton is telling it to you in real-time with the raspy drawl of a calving heifer! Before TuneIn or the Canes apps even existed, I used to have to find the one spot out in the back yard, where the hills and trees parted just right, that I could pickup 730(?)AM The Buzz all the way out in Catawba county. I'd sit in the shadow of the mighty Appalachians, staring out at the stars and getting high with stray cats, while being serenaded by the worst hockey you've never seen played in your life. That all, finally, started to change around the time TD bought the team. Part of that is due to the new NHL TV contracts and the constant reorganization of the RSNs themselves. Part, was me breaking up with that feral cat and moving to LKN to escape all the painful memories. The march of progress, and all that... I will say though, as much as I've criticized Dundon and as much as I loathe the existence of billionaires on principle, he has done an exceptional job of improving the fan experience, on the whole. Working with the league to expand the coverage map and bringing in outdoor games and all-star weeks has been huge. But, improving the quality on the ice (and of the ice) for all levels of hockey across the state has been even bigger! I forgot where I was going with all this, but... I'll still never forgive him for retiring Chuck K, though! HEY, HEY, WHADDYA SAY!!!!
