Cam given #1 (Update and he is Keeping the Number)

Person doesn't necessarily expect it to last...

Newton is said to be wary of wearing No. 1 because of the extra attention it might draw. In previous situations like this, players have purchased numbers from teammates.

A resolution is expected soon, because the team is eager to sell Newton's jersey, with whatever number that might be.

You don't have to be signed to get a jersey number.

Richardson said for years he wouldn't allow a number one to be worn. Either he's changed that, or this really is just temporary.

I've heard people say this but have never actually heard Richardson say it. Are you sure he has said it? Or is it one of those things that have been repeated so much it has become truth?

Don't know that he ever said it publicly, but I saw it written about bey more than one of the local guys years back.

There was never an official statement on the number 51 either until it was retired, but you'd have had to shoot Jackie Miles to get it.

Newton being uncomfortable with it makes sense too.

that makes no sense. If you fail you fail.

It could make business sense.

It's better for the NBA when the Lakers are in the finals. Certain things could go their way that normally wouldn't for teams/players that aren't "too big to fail"

Jerry has a lot invested in Cam. Jerry is a big player in the NFL scheme of things. It might be in the best interest of the NFL to have Cam not fail.

No?

I'm not saying it isn't true I just have never actually heard it and was wondering if it has become an urban legend.
