What is better for Cam's chance at stardom

Recommended Posts

I've been getting flamed on another post...I'm assuming it's your turn.

But to answer your question, he should logically sit for a year but with my heart, I want him to start day one. Huge Cam fan here and don't care who knows it.

I think he should sit and play the later half of the season. He going to have to play anyway because we got to see what we can get out of him. I dont want our team to be in a position were we have different QB playing ever week.Once Newton get the job he has it for good.

cam's stardom? seriously? that is what is important?

i guess if you are a fan of the player first, i guess it's understandable and welcome aboard the bandwagon.

but as a panthers fan, i don't care about anyone's "stardom". i just want to win games.

i liked cam the most in this draft because i thought he would be good for the team and help them win. how he is perceived doesn't really matter to me all that much as long as he helps this team win. thats all that matters.

you concerned about his stardom? winning games...thats how he's going to do it. doesn't matter when that starts, just as long as it does.

meh...

Yea and if you take the right steps with the guy you took #1 overall at the QB position you will win a lot of games. Don't get your panties in a bind, we're just talking football.

I want him to come in and run some plays and have a set right off the bat assuming that there is a better option in Anderson. Otherwise the best choice for the Panthers is to put the best guy out there day 1. If that is Newton then let him learn right away. If he can sit back and learn from a better option who knows the offense then I am fine for him to do that.

But to sit him protecting him while someone is awful makes no sense at all. Based on the last 5 years there is not a clear precedent to suggest that playing or sitting is more detrimental or helpful than the other.

    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
    • Probably not.  If we are taking a QB, it would be a prospect to replace Bryce and not a flyer type player.  I can't say for sure, but I doubt he would have cracked the top 3-4 QBs even if he were to play this coming season.
    • The Giants, Cardinals  and Dolphins should have moved on, but they didn't and ended up cutting their QB early into a monster second contract and had to eat a TON of dead cap money.
