How can so called football fans have no clue how signing bonuses are handles? I have seen everything from it not counting against the cap to it all counts the first year. Geesh...do these people live under a rock?

Because we're FOOTBALL fans, not FRONT OFFICE fans. Sorry Mr. Trump.

I knew some part of the bonuses were spread across the life of the contract, but not sure how they worked, especially the signing bonus.

Excuse me for educating myself.

if you know how it works, either explain it to others or stay out of the conversation, no need to get angry or make fun of them

there have been some changes in the way contracts can be structured in the new cba. not even GMs knew how things were set up the first day of signings. that fans don't know what are going on with them shouldn't be surprising.

Whats crazy is us falcon fans just found out that we was only offering Charles Johnson 7 mil a year (what our GM value LE's) .... How did the Panthers FO get to 12+ mil a year ? We was their main competition for CJ.

I get spending money on your own talent which is smart... Plus you guys had to spend the money...I thought we was in a bidding war with you guys (the reason why johnson got so much)

A coherent, logical, and well though-out post from an opposing fan.

Welcome to the Huddle!

They may have been the number they wanted to enter the talks with but i am sure they were willing to go higher as they negotiated and tried to get him......JR just threw down the cash and prevented ATL from bothering trying.

I thought the same thing but i listened to a interview our GM had... He was basically saying he has a value chart (of what to pay) for each position... He doesnt value a LE on the same value scale of a RE.... LE's get around 7 mil a year.

I honestly think we wanted him but only between 7-8 mil a year (after hearing our GM and us getting Ray Edwards for a little under 6 mil a year).

You guys kept a great LE tho... I just found that interesting... I'm sure 10 mil a year would have kept him... IDK... I know his family wanted him in Atlanta... I see why CJ was shocked

Regardless.. You guys had the money to spend .. I just found that interesting

Guest Spot On Dtan

Panthers made a mistake.

Mark my words.

They will need all of that money and more to sign Cam (MV7's heir) to the league's first 20 million/year deal

Cam Newton is the future of the quarterback position.

Why couldn't we have traded up 5 more spots? :(
