Bills | Hangartner contract details

Wed, 04 Mar 2009 14:17:17 -0800

Updating a previous report, Mark Gaughan, of The Buffalo News, reports the Buffalo Bills have signed OG Geoff Hangartner to a four-year deal. Hangartner will make a $1.9 million base salary in 2009, $2.35 million in 2010, $2.55 million in 2011 and $2.8 million in 2012.

4 years/9.6 million

I think he was worth that to us. Shame to lose him.

Don't underestimate the power of opportunity.

He probably wants to start, he won't walk in week one here over Kalil starting Center. Even RG he'd have to battle for here.

Probably. Remember how his agent stopped talks with us before FA began? Makes you wonder if getting a starting gig was the line in the sand.

At that price we definately could've kept him, I agree though that it was probably more about opportunity than money for him. The real question is how the hell did Frank Omiyale get 4 years 12-14 million with one career start

HE was quoted as saying he will be earning more in this contract that he ever imagined to see in his entire life. Pretty sure that he has some nice bonuses tied in there. In addition almost everyone has confirmed that it was the starting role that he was after and that the money was an after thought, it seems unless we could of granted him to start at RG we never stood a chance at retaining him.

yea. It sucks that we finally got line depth and it all ran away from us as soon as we got it. The challenge now will be whether Maguzu can keep turning these guys like Schwartz and Bernadeau into solid depth, ala Dante Scarnecchia.

Hangartner probably knew his best fit was at center anyway, and that position is firmly within the grasp of Kalil. I thought he was better there than guard.

I guess being a starter was worth more than the money?? Im confused

yes.

he wanted to be a starter. wasn't going to be one here. he went somewhere that he could be. he will never know how good he could be unless he is given the chance. in buffalo he gets that chance. good for him.

no one likes to be behind the lead dog for long.

Considering Omiyale got 14 million for 4 years from Chicago and had one start in his career, you can count on the fact that Hangartner got more than that with all his starts and experience. I expect with his signing bonus, any roster bonuses as well as incentives likely to be earned, he will get closer to 4 or 5 million per year.

    • Yeah it is nice seeing some improvement on the defensive side and the young guys.   I don’t want to think about the future much if Bryce doesn’t heal and we are kept in this limbo via an incomplete test. It is depressing  I don’t have quite as dim a view of the 24 draft class as you do   I have modest hopes for XL compared to none. I like CSW.  Am a little cooler on Sanders but at the same time realized this week that Morgan getting that future 2nd for moving down turned into Scourton. I think. Jackson is a real value in exchange for the guy we took with the 7th. I don’t expect anything from Brooks but Wallace seems to have improved enough to not bust. And Coker is in with them, but is giving us nothing this year. So far, and it is almost half over     I hope Andy still has enough to make watching the offense less of a claustrophobic experience. And there is a small chance we upset the Bills but just playing them tough and making it a fun game to watch will be enough.
    • Bryce haters gunna hate.  Can't change that. Bryce has been pretty durable all things considered.  A couple minor injuries considering how much he was hammered year 1.  And he still takes hits.  Dude is tough. The play in question is a football play, poo happens.  That's ultimately what happened.  Guys running around, trying to stop Young and stuff happened.  Sucks but that's how it goes. For me, I'd rather see Young play.  He will either prove that he's the Dude, a JAG (leaning heavily right now), or an outright bust (some of you were there on draft night, lol)
    • I think we need to let the 2025 class develop. Remember at one point early during last season the 2024 class was gonna be a killer. And we had all kinds of people chirping about how the 2021 Draft was the greatest of all time. Early returns are promising. Let's hope it continues.
