The fact that so many people think Clausen looks better than Newton says a lot about both.

I don't think so.....

if people think Clausen looked better than Newton it means there are people that need to look into some drug rehab.

Sadly, in a world where our so called "sports gurus" now dictate what defines a true QBbased on shallow perception, second guessing and favoritism, lost is the reality that one important factor in being a true QB..You MUST lead with confidence.

One thing that stood out to me while watching the Superbowl this year was how Aaron LED his team as a QB. I remembered one play in particular where he threaded a long ball to one of his recievers that was clearly catchable and the guy dropped it. When the game was winding down and still close in score, Aaron threw another threader to the same receiver, a littler further out, with more velocity and square in his chest; as if to say, "this time you will hold onto the ball...lol

The funny thing was Aaron had other receivers that were wide open that he could have thrown the ball too but choose to go back to the same receiver who dropped what was a perfect ball not to long ago.

IMO, it not only showed confidence in Aaron to repeat the exact same play and get a touchdown but it also showed how much confidence he had in his teammates.

Just what I feared! Clausen has zero arm strength. If you look closely, everytime he throws the ball down field, he has to turn his head away from his receiver just to gain the strength to get it to him. Three problems with this. One, because he turns his head with the ball still in his hand, it leaves a second where he doesn't completely see the throw. How long does it take for an uncovered receiver to become covered? The same amount of time it takes for Clausen to turn his head. The chances of his deep passes getting picked off increases drastically if he is throwing in any kind of coverage. Two, ultimately his accuracy will be off. You can't completely judge where your receiver will be if you can't see your passes through. Finally three, he does this motion to increase the power of his throws. Even when he does this, the ball still floats for a while. They don't have the zing that you see with Newton's throws.

Bottom line, your week one starters will either be Newton or Mr. Anderson.

How does it feel to have to hold your nose and act like Cam looks really good in those vids just to assert that Clausen looks bad?

Not afraid to say it, I really like what I see in cam especially considering he has had a couple weeks or so of camp.

At this point you aren't expecting too much:

1) good decisions

2) quick release

3) accuracy

4) not afraid to step into pressure to make a throw

5) ability to extend a play

I thought I saw all those things with Cam. Clausen has big problems with 4 and 5

    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
