Good interviews on 610 from training camp this morning

Was driving into work this morning and WFNZ 610 is broadcasting from training camp today. Had Rivera on around 7:30a, then had Otah and Godfrey on together after that. Pretty sure they will be doing interviews all morning at least until camp starts around 10a. I am sure the interviews will all be podcasted later today if you can't listen live.

That is my good, charitable deed for the day.

They also had TD and Captain on before Rivera. TD is pretty funny. At the end of the interview the host thanked them for coming on the radio and TD said the Captain had to come on the radio cause he had a face too ugly for TV. TD was cracking on him the whole interview but all in good fun.

Rivera said that we would be fine at CB and DT because it took 11 men working together to be good, not individual star players. Asked if you could name all 11 guys from the SD defense last year.

Danny Morrison on now.

Rivera also mentioned that he would be involved in some defensive play calling when needed but he and McDermott have the same Jim Johnson philosophy......attack.

Godfrey seemed happy that there is a lot of moving around on defense and was excited that they have more than one all out safety blitz packages.

Otah mentioned that the defensive playbook is big but the offensive playbook is huge. He also sounds on the radio like he could pick up a buick and swallow it whole. I am not sure how exactly you can tell a mans size on the radio, but you can.

I'd like to hear an interview with McDermott and see how he thinks things are sizing up.

It would be coach speak.

"well you know we have a lot of talent on this team (name mainstream players) and we have somethings to install still. Its a process. ec etc"

they are interviewing hurney right now.

trying to get out of him who will start.

also asking about CB situation.

"certainly thats a spot where u look", we have some young guys who are competing and doing well....you don't know what's going to be out there. couldn't add a veteran in offseason...we think young guys can compete, but always looking for options. have to be patient and wait and keep an eye out

Here is the link to the interviews:

8/9/11 – The guys were down in Spartanburg and had a chance to sit down with two pairs of Panthers. First up were Thomas Davis and Captain Munnerly. When they weren’t trash talking each others schools and each others speed, they were excitedly talking about the new defensive scheme.

Tackle Jeff Otah and Safety Charles Godfrey joined the guys to talk about Jeff’s return, comparing playbooks, and motivation heading into the season.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
