Mallett/Gabbert/Cam/Ponder/Locker

Most times.

Now he has the added pressure of not being "The Man." In college he was clearly the best, now he's just a small fish in a big pond. How does he handle that? It's completely different pressure than an NCAA investigation, which is what you mentioned. So while you didn't mention his father and crime in particular, you mentioned the NCAA investigation that was about his father and him committing a crime.

Your right, he is in a whole different world and he is no longer the best, or even close to being the best for that matter. However, the mentality needs to stay the same for him. He needs to keep striving to be the best, no matter the circumstances.

Newton's pro transition will be harder than Mallett's. Mallett is already familiar with making pro style reads while Newton still has a lot to learn in that regard. That's just a fact of life.

What's also true however is that this fact is in no way a predictor of success.

Newton has a harder hill to climb, but he still could get to the top of that hill before Mallett if he works harder. And even if Mallett gets there quicker, it's still possible that Newton stays there longer.

There are a million variables when it comes to predicting a pro quarterbacks success. This is one.

Good.

It's called being an Auburn fan since the days of Cadilac Williams and Jason Campbell.

But in your case, it's called try reading a newspaper or magazine article from any sports tab during this past years college football season.

So by being an Auburn fan, you know what goes on in Cam's head or what his thoughts and motivations are?

I'm a Panther fan and a Dodger fan but I don't know what the fug Matt Kemp is thinking at all, especially when he's running the bases.

Read a newspaper for pete sake. I'd link you a bunch of articles about Cam but it would be a waste of time because you would only dispute them, even if they were written plain and clear for Helen Keller.

So just to be clear, Cam can handle pressure better because he and his father are criminals and only he had to deal with that and his teammates didn't?

Was this thread a subtle attempt to get people wound up again? I assumed so as soon as I opened it but pretty sure of it now.

The one thing we know about Cam is that he can handle pressure. It may have been pressure he brought on himself, but he handled it.

My biggest worry is still how he'll take NFL hits.

Yeah I know, he's huge. But in that BCS Championship game he got up slowly an awful lot, and those were just college players (some smaller than him). What happens when someone like Ray Lewis or Troy Polamalu lays into him?

Hoping it's a non-issue, but that's one thing I'll be watching for this preseason. What happens when he takes his first big hit. If he handles that well, I'll feel a lot better.

    • I mean I just don't understand the argument. Baker and Sam both have been pro bowl QBs post their time here. And you just said yourself that is due to him having a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. You're even saying the bad baker is still there somewhere, but he is in a good organization with good roster and coaching that they are getting the best out of him. Why does Baker and Sam get all that benefit of the doubt but when it comes to Bryce it must be a BY9 problem, not an org or team problem?  Hell I got a guy below you arguing with me that Chark/Hurst/Mingo sucked because Bryce wouldn't throw them open. It's ridiculous how far the stretch goes.
    • Correct.  It’s really hard to get open in the NFL when opposing defenses gameplan and cheat coverage/routes on all your players because they know your QB can’t make certain throws/plays.   magically no one that comes to Carolina can get open or make plays with the ball in their hands…..it’s like there is one singular common dominator to it all.  BY makes playing defense way too easy.   NFL players are too good to allow one side to cheat coverage and not respect all the potential threats of a route  so you can dial up a great play.  But if corners and safeties just cheat coverage and know X and Y happening on route/threats….getting open gets hard when they just play it one way.  Getting open has a lot to do with the different threats a WR can pose on a given play.
    • Kinda depends how you look at it both were 3rd round draft pics.  Nico was nothing before stroud and tank came in with stroud.  If both were on the panthers would young have them doing well and starting or would their stats be low.  I really dont know the answer to that.  None of the panthers wrs have left and did well either but personally i feel neither of nico or tank would do much on the panthers.
