Cam Can

Cam looked very good for a rookie, with his 1st NFL start. His passes were on target for the most part and he made very good decisions. I think that we have indeed found our franchise QB, but did anyone notice how good and comfortable Anderson looked under center? He had complete control of the offense and pump faked enough to control the defense as well. Should he be our starter game 1?

Anderson looked ok, not good. That one pass to Martin was as lucky as they come. Should have been a pick.

Jimmy looked ok, not good. Still holds on to the ball too long (that second sack) and still doesn't seem as if he trusts his deep ball.

Cam looked ok, not good. For where he's at in his career, that's still better than I could have ever hoped for. Look for him to only get better in the next game.

As it's been beaten to death in the TRD thread, better footwork from Cam will lead to better accuracy.

Wow, someone responded instead of being an a**. I completly agree you. I do like what Cam brings right now and would put him ahead of Claussen. I'm sure that he was told to stay in the pocket an throw instead of taking off and he threw for approx 130+, with his running ability he'll be even better. But I was impressed with the poise of Anderson.

I would rather Cam sit and learn. There are different ways of handling rookie QB's. The one I have the most trust in is sitting and learning. Cam doesn't look NFL ready yet, and we really need him to be the franchise QB.

Also I don't want this to be a throw-away, transitional year, I'm looking to see some wins.

    • Word is that Lawrence showed up and weighed in at nearly 400 pounds for his Bengals medical check. I'd find a reason to fail him. Blood type tested as bacon grease. Fail. We've all seen what happens when a dominant huge, explosive DT can't manage his weight. You're gonna age like milk. Looking like Kris Jenkins 2.0.
    • Hard to interpret some of Brugler's opinions. Capable of running a robust route tree sounds like a lazy thing to say - I'm sure just about every slot TE is capable of running a full route tree... I want to know if he is currently able to (which from tape leads me to a no). Granted, it's pretty common for most receivers/TE not having a full route tree developed before they get drafted. Agility/acceleration after the catch hasn't shown up on his tape (at least his Oregon tape) for those dig/out breaking routes while it has for the seam and slant routes. Agree he has a good physical build and he is very good running seam routes. His build definitely helps him to shield defenders and create a large target point for the QB. Drops were a concern, but it could be focus drops just like T-Mac was/is prone to. Run blocking is an accurate statement, but again, we have only seen him run block in the slot/backfield - inline blocking is a whole different animal. With his athleticism, he definitely has a high ceiling. I just think he also has a low floor and don't like taking that big of a risk on a mid 1st rounder. I think this is a deep TE draft and would much rather target one in the 3rd or later. He's very boom or bust to me - bust in terms of being worth a 1st round pick, not an out of the NFL in a few years type bust. I feel like he gives me Evan Engram vibes. Not saying that Evan Engram was/is a bad NFL player, just that most people would agree he shouldn't have been drafted in the 1st.
