The latest update shows the Outer Banks of North Carolina at risk of tremendous damage from Irene as the storm is expected to pass directly over the fragile barrier islands.

The projected storm track covers the entire mid-Atlantic coastlines of both North Carolina and Virginia on Saturday and Sunday with Irene still packing hurricane force winds while approaching the Chesapeake Bay area.

Of course, these are only storm path projections at this point and subject to change depending on when the storm begins curving northward. With luck, Irene could pass by well offshore but it all depends on the upper-level steering winds and how quickly the storm moves northwestward through the Bahamas.

I think 2 pm is just the intermediate update- the real info comes out at 5 pm, 11 pm , 5 am, and 11 am

idc, I just need some sort of update better than 11am this morning. It says 2pm is next update.....hopefully it will show it moving further east so we can not cancel our beach trip.

Don't worry, it will. There is very big high pressure front coming from the West. It will force hurricane to shift farther into the ocean.
