Take the Cam Newton pledge...

I CRA do hereby pledge that Cam Newton has my full support as the Carolina Panthers starting quarterback......until he starts 10 games and played in 13 then i get to reconsider my stance. If he still has not thrown a NFL TD to a WR after 300+ NFL pass attempts......he likely will find himself in the company of other Panther QBs.

If only the #1 pick in the draft had the luxary of being judged to Clausen. (And of course if memory serves me Clausen was being judged much sooner than 10 starts.)

His logical comparison will be to Bradford, last year's #1 pick, QB, Heisman trophy winner, and national champion. Sound familiar...

Anyone acting like Cam is 'project' and not comparable to last year's #1 pick needs to talk to the Panthers front office and not to Cam. He won't get any such breaks from an unsympathetic national viewing public.

Bradford would be a poor comparison. Bradford dink and dunked and wasn't asked to make that many big throws downfield. Cam will be asked to throw less, run more, and make more throws downfield.

Cam is unique.....so his passing numbers could be worse than QB X but his effectiveness on the ground w/ counter some of the lacking passing production. So you can judge him based on the eye ball test in comparison to Bradford in terms of what he does for the team.....but not by the stat sheet.

also, Bradford wasn't robbed of most of his prep time. But late in the year, there are some fair ways to compare Cam to a guy like Bradford late (just not stat for stat). Bradford could have a much better comp % and Cam could simply be much better.

So even if he is worse, he's actually better. Nice

You forgot to factor in completion % alone means nothing. If I can complete 100% of my passes but all for zero yards but someone else completes 5% of their passes for one yard then that person is a much better QB.

I _________________ do hereby pledge that Cam Newton has my full support as the Carolina Panthers starting quarterback. The fact that I did/didn't (circle one) has no bearing on my decision to live in reality and realize Cam is the biggest hope for a franchise QB that we have ever had.

In addition, I realize Cam will at times struggle, and promise not to throw him under the bus at any given opportunity. I understand that Cam is here under a multi year plan, and not a 6 week plan.

By accepting this pledge, your Matt Moore pledge started by some knuckle head last season is null and void.

No. Sorry I don't believe in the kid, I don't trust Hurney's ability to judge talent in the draft. I feel they reached for Newton. The kid is doing nothing to alleviate any concerns on his ability to play QUARTERBACK in the NFL so far.

I am not going to boo the kid or root against him, but no pledge from me.

    • He's not wrong though. You talk like a politician on here. Leaving yourself just enough wiggle room to say you never fully counted Bryce out if you need to....But we can all see it. Just say you think he is a bust outright and you will have to type a lot less. Obfuscating your opinion behind QB3 competitions etc....
    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
