Steve Reed speculates < 53 come cut time

He's probably right. Get rid of the chaff and keep the wheat.

Keep room for what's out there.

My thinking is the Panthers will cut deeper than 53 to leave a few roster spots open for guys they’ll sign once other teams make some cuts -- particularly at cornerback, defensive line and offensive guard. Coach Ron Rivera admitted after Thursday night’s preseason finale against Pittsburgh that the Panthers will actively be looking to add help from outside the organization, acknowledging those three positions are certainly areas of need.

“We have to look at everything,” Rivera said. “Not just our 53 but our practice squad players as well and what potentially could be out there. We will most certainly have to be diligent as the waiver wires hit and in our selecting process we will have to be very efficient with it.”

Here's a thought - does a FA pickup come in (for any position) and get the start next week at AZ? Or do you think all starters are locked in at this point for week one?

Pretty much anyone out there on the waiver can come in and start at our RG.

Leonard Davis please

True. I guess when I had the thought, was thinking more along the lines of DT or CB. I guess if we can find a corner capable of starting ahead of Captain, that would be nice.

DT is usually a plug and play position with vets, OG would probably need a bit of practice with CB being a toss up between zone and man coverages.

Just got to get a guy that can stand his ground. As easy as that sounds it has not been so for the Panthers lately. RG is the utmost need now with no one to really take the G spot over.

    • Honestly I haven no idea what I would have even done last night, Edgecomb was the most realistic option to improve our team
    • He doesn't have the athleticism to play in the NBA. He had the worst numbers of anyone who worked out in this draft. He's legitimately the least athletic player in this draft, which is saying something.   His ceiling is Kyle Korver, with his lack of athleticism he's more likely to be out of the league in 5-6 years like Jimmer Fredette.
    • Well, he was in probably every NBA franchise's top 6 or 7. Obviously it's nice to take the swing and it work out. But when a guy refuses to work out for your team, is probably the guy refusing to play with LaMelo, has sketchy handlers, etc.? You want...to take that swing? A desperate team does, sure. Which the Hornets are. But a smart team doesn't. Which is what they will hopefully become.  Kon isn't a superstar, but his floor is Kyle Korver. Is that what you want in the 4th pick? Not really, but he's your 4th guy on a good team and what I think Charles Lee wants in a player.  Trade down would've been nice, but for who? Tre Johnson would've been my guy, but he's gone if we trade with Brooklyn. If Washington wanted Ace, I doubt it would've taken much to come get him. Trade down and get Maluach (knowing you're trading Mark) would make sense and may have been the play, but I think Kon helps the team on the court and changing a culture. Not so sure about some of the guys in the 8-12 range.
