Nice to see this place on the same page this year.

I just wanted to say this forum and community is NIGHT and DAY compared to how it was last year, and to some extent the year prior to this, especially when the term "Future of the Franchise" is used.

Can't say I miss those arguments too much. Now that we have that settled we can finally focus on the most overlooked issue that I always believed to be the biggest problem on this team, even last year: the O-line. I believe Cam's amazing performance is drawing attention from the simple fact that we still gave up 4 sacks.

There are other concerns of course, including one that's horrible thing to think about, but I just can't help to think it :what the heck are we going to do if Cam goes down? The difference between our first and second string QB's is about as different as this forum from last year to this year.

And I'm curious to know what everyone's opinion is on what areas we need to improve on most now that the QB issue appears to be solved. Mine are as follows:

1. O-line

2. Defense

3. Special Teams

4. Receiver: still missing that explosive #2, and we will need a replacement sooner or later for Smitty

PS: I hear Randy Moss is currently still available;) Not a future receiver, but for one year....Cam, Smitty and Moss.....could be the equivalent of signing Davis back in 2003.

i have no reason to believe randy moss won't disrupt locker room camaraderie, since he's pretty much done it everywhere he's been

Smith?

That's my least of concerns now though. If we don't fix the O-line that won't matter anyway. You only have to look at our running stats, both last year, and yesterday's game to see the black sheep.

You have a QB that throws for over 400 yards and 2 touchdowns, 2 excellent running backs and the only rushing touchdown we have is also from the QB, while we put up a whopping total of 74 yards on the ground, 18 of those also from the QB. There might be an issue there, and it's easy to say fix the run game, but that's shortsighted, imo.

Running game problem = O-line problem.

Also probably one of the main reason we didn't attempt one run at the end of the game yesterday from AZ's 11 yard line. One again, I say Cam's performance hid a lot of out issues yesterday, the biggest of which was O-line.

lol why do people always bring up steve smith when defending moss

their personalities are nothing alike

Did you see that interview Smith did right before TC started? It was a local interview so you may have missed it.

Moss would NEVER say anything like Smith said. He basically apologized to everyone. I recall him saying, "I showed my ass"

I think we couldnt run because they stacked the box and wanted to make Cam throw to beat them, he burned em for 422 because of it. Too bad we didnt get a W though.

Well I can't speak for those, but I think he misinterpreted what I was saying.

Well you did a great job of speaking clearly. One word rebuttal of what I said. That's like if my first reply to you was to say "Camaraderie?" and then start talking about a different point. So if you're saying that Smith can keep him in check it's really just a pipe dream. Moss needs to be on a team that needs to be in constant contendership to keep his composure, like New England. We didn't win yesterday but I would say locker room morale is pretty high. In any struggling team, especially one that is rebuilding, Moss is the fuging antidote for morale.

Yep, and that's why I thought that's where he was going. A lot of people have put Smith and Moss in the same category without looking at the specifics. Smith has had his character concerns and grumblings last season but he did work out his differences behind closed doors mostly. Other than that, he punched two players in his career, and they weren't really related. One incident he was young and the other was stupid, but he showed immediately how sorry he was, took his punishment without complaining, and I would say it killed that lingering beef he had with Lucas and made them closer, which wasn't going to hurt locker room morale, even if it didn't improve it. Then there's the incident where he publicly criticized Dwayne Jarrett's lazy unmotivated ass to his face, which looking back on it I really don't have a problem with.

Who exactly are we supposed to cut on the OL? Our weakest link is Hangartner and even he's decent.

They have to play better, yes, but the talent is there. I actually thought the pass protection was solid considering Arizona threw every blitz known to man at them. They can only block so many guys.

The run blocking... that's gotta get better. But as someone said in another thread, our OL has a history of struggling with run blocking early in the season.

However, it's worth noting that no team really ran the ball THAT well yesterday. I saw that Ray Rice was the leading rusher in the entire league with just over 100 yards and 1 TD. There weren't a whole lot of really dominant rushing performances. That could be a sign of something larger than just our OL.
