Newton's big numbers fail to add up again

And they won't until they get some balance on offense. Until the running game offers something, Carolina isn't winning squat.

Some of these fools in the media need to understand that Cam Newton is a rookie, and no America, it's not all about the Quarterback, just like it's not all about the President. Never has been, never will be regardless of the prima donna culture that the media perpetuate. There are 3 co-equal branches of Government, and each of them sucks, and all of them have sucked for decades, therefore the whole government sucks. That's not all on the President. Congress is more important than he is, if you've ever read the Constitution. A football team has an offense, a defense, special teams, and all of those have multiple positions with a job to do. It's never all about the QB in a win or a loss, just because the media make it so.

Newton's stats aren't an indictment of Newton, in any way. To people with a brain, the stats are proof that you need balance. Even if you don't pass and run 50/50 of the time, you at least need to have a run game that you can turn to when it's needed. So all of this idiotic talk about "look at Cam's stats, but they still loss" is a waste of time unless you're going to point out why that's the case, and no, it's not just the 3 interceptions, because odds are all of those interceptions wouldn't have happened if you could run the ball.

The media suck. In politics, it's all about the "President". In football, it's all about the "Quarterback". In the NBA, it's all about "the star player"...according to the media. Have you all not figured out yet that they are dumbing you down by trying to find the simplest explanation for everything, even if it's not as simple as just finding "one person" to blame for whatever happens? Much easier than saying, "the system sucks", and you have strategic flaws.

Don't expect to see many articles this week focusing on the Panthers lack of a running game, and no offensive balance.

Stew had 100yds receiving and Williams had a decent amount as well. Those plays are ostensibly run plays. I don't care how they get yards as long as they get yards. We do need to work on running between the tackles on short yardage a little bit, but I don't think the run game is as big of an issue as some of you are making out.

The team averaged 12.25 points per game last year. After 2 games this year they are averaging 22 points per game. People can moan about the run game all they want. It will eventually get on track. But the point is we are still getting 22 points per game while only gaining 145 rushing yards in 2 games (71 belonging to Cam). At least the games this season have been close and exciting. Go ahead and take your precious running game. It made for a real exciting season last year.

Well you had to expect it. Rookie or not someone is going to complain about the fact we didn't win these games with so many damn yards and didn't convert them into more points.

They're right....for now. It will come. He'll get some hate this week. Expect the critics to come out full force mid-week. Cam will shut them up on Sunday. Maybe this is what he needed, since nobody made any mentions of him not being able to win until today. He seems to be doing what everyone's giving him crap about so now that winning is coming up.....that will be his next assignment.

It's all part of Cam's plan to be in the headlines every week;)

Funny that u should mention the reality of how powerful and mind controling our media have gotten. I remembered when Bill Clinton was in office and the media made so much out of the Lewinsky story with the constant bombarding of scandals that u really didn't know what to believe so u either believe nothing or everything. That was the beginning of me realizing what our media was doing to this society.

Dumbing us down. Whether it's in the case of a politician, athlete, or a person we don't even know from Adam, the media's ability to sway our preception of that individual by continually playing to our personal prejudices, fears, or self-righteousness is mindboggling. Even more mind boggling is the fact that we continually fall for the game.

We do need more balance but 400 yards passing when they know that's all you're gonna do is damned impressive.

Impressive doesn't always mean effective, or successful.

You can come across a very "impressive" female, but that doesn't mean one evening with her won't leave you with more than you asked for. :puke:

At some point, someone has to stress that Williams and Stewart have been very good backs in the NFL, so why has Cam Newton thrown 83 passes in 2 games?

It makes no sense for the Panthers not to be more balanced, and they won't be a real threat until they have it. Yet, the media thinks it's all about Cam Newton. Manning didn't win a Super Bowl until he got a serviceable running game, and the Saints picked up Ingram because they credit their ability to run for their Super Bowl 2 years ago.

Do any of these Newton analysts know any of this?

Balance is great if the defense is not as skewed as it has been stopping the run, loading the box and blitzing Newton. You take what defenses give you and the past 2 weeks they loaded the box and gave us the pass. We took it, like we should.

Complain that we should have run the ball at least once on third and 1 and I would be with you totally. Argue that we should have tried a reverse or two and I would be right with you. But complain that we shouldn't be doing exactly what we have done the past 2 weeks, and I can't get behind that at all.

Exactly dude. And compare it to last year, we would have still tried to run even when they were giving us the pass. I am not getting the hate. We are LIGHT YEARS ahead of where anybody predicted us to be at this point.

"Take what the defense gives you" = taking the bait.

The defense is giving it to you, because they believe they can get three picks out of it in return.

I'd like to see the Panthers do what they need to do to win, not just take what they get when that's really just a "bend but don't break" defensive game plan.

We just have to be able to score a TD inside the 10 yard line without asking our rookie QB to constantly do it himself! That 3rd and 1 call inside the 5 was just horrible! Pound the **** ball! The same crap happened last week...in the same situation! Inside the 10 yard line...4 straight passes and no TD. Run the ball! I'm all for passing...but there are times you simply have to run. As for Cam...made some mistakes but so did just about every quarterback today. He can't do it by himself. The coaching staff has got to help him out with the run especially in the red zone. No wonder Derek Anderson had a pro bowl year in 2007...Cleveland probably never ran the ball!
