Steve Young calls Steve Smith the best WR in football.

They were discussing Calvin Johnson. Trey Wingo asks Steve if Calvin is best WR in the game, and Young's response is:

"Well, you got a lot of great guys out there. Steve Smith, he's a guy who I have always felt was the best, he hasn't had a QB the past two years, and now that he does, he's proving that now"

Cool. Smitty is no doubt one of the best in the game. I always giggled at the people who tried to pin his lack of recent success on him. The guy isn't just fast, if you watch closely, you just marvel at complete of a package he is. You could make the argument he is the best!

I am watching NFL Live and they asked Steve Young if he though Megatron was the best WR in the NFL and the first thing Young said was along the lines of "well, first you gotta look at Steve Smith who I have always thought is a top WR in the league, he just hasn't had a QB to throw him the ball, now that he does we are seeing that."

Anyone else see this?

I was typing this too haha.

"Well, I mean he's coming on, there's no question about that. We've got some great receivers out there. Steve Smith has been under the radar for a couple of years, I always thought he was the best. Now he's got someone who's throwing the ball and he's kind of proving that out."

if smith were on the pats and in welkers position smith would own every record in the books already, without a question. welker is great but smith is a bit faster, tougher, quicker and he makes those freak circus catch and runs that welker isnt known for.

    • Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.
    • It definitely needs more specificity than is baked in now.
    • The weirdest encounter I had with a pro athlete was waiting in line at security at Mile High Stadium when I used to get the company suite tickets almost every week because I was the only employee based in Colorado. There's a small checkpoint accessing the suites that virtually no one knows about that you can usually squirt right through. I was standing there and looked over my shoulder and there stands John fuging Elway waiting in line behind me.  This was during the The Golden Calf of Bristol season right before he became GM. I just said "They make YOU go through security?" He's like "Yeah, ain't that a bitch. I literally have a statue out front and I gotta go through security like everybody else." I've heard mixed things about him but he was super nice and down to earth with me that day.
